Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Remember Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars III ? "Only a Sith deals in absolutes...."......
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Raul, you are referring (maybe without knowing so...) to the Volunté Générale by J.-J. Rousseau. This gets automatic in opposition to the "Volonté de tous" of all the other audiophiles. This is an old dilemma.Even if we take you as the chief sommel...
want new plinth ideas for direct-drive turntables
Mikelavigne, I have seen (rather: heard...) both the Minus-K and Vibraplane changing the performance of Micro RX-5000, TW Acustic Raven AC 2, Platine Verdier and VPI TNT all for the better. I would recommend adding a suitable active or passive iso...
want new plinth ideas for direct-drive turntables
I know its not popular, but go and try once for heaven's sake a plinth which is suspended with low resonance frequency - below 3Hz.It is not the plinth weight, composition or raw material - isolate it from any outside vibration and your eyes will ...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Dear Darkmoebius, in teh early 1930ies you could order from H.H.Scott a "Quaranta". If you did so - and included all possible features including your own recording device with cutting lathe... - it would have cost you US$5000+ in the early 1930ies...
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Dear Raul, growing up doesn't necessary mean to leave archaic ways. We all try - some more some less - to make things important to us "better". And - well, english isn't my mother language either and I can expres myself and my thought a hell of a ...

Darkmoebius - and high-end went back all the way to the 1920/30ies and today you have 18W SE-Amplifiers (Lamm, WAVAC etc.) and super expensive full-range drivers and speakers which usually do outperform a Linkwitz-filtered 4 way speaker with a cro...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Samujohn, all what you listen - each and everything including the reel-to-reel (invented by AEG) - was developed or its design and research which led to development was requested by military.Hobby audio was there before WW2 - already alive and kic...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Darkmoebius, sorry to say in this context, that Syntax is right. While I do have respect for the brands you listed, the only "field" where the "better" succeeded for several millenia was ( and today it is beginning to change even here....) militar...
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Acoustat6, I honestly think Raul is serious in his plans and attempts to fulfill his dreams and visions. And I have no doubt that in his very personal point of view to the audio world as a whole he will succeed one far away future day. In his visi...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Dear Samujohn, no need for a thread. This has all been covered widely and by better (= more knowledgeable) audiophiles in the early 1980ies and published in the french magazine L'audiophile. After all, transistors started as tubes without vacuum a...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
If you want the 2nd order distortions of the better triodes, you can have them with transistors too. It is a matter of design - not tube vs. Transistors. But indeed - this is something for other threads.
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Samujohn, you are right - equalization can (and in pro audio it is a truly mandatory all-present tool) enhance playback intelligibility. But the result is neither true to the original spirit of high fidelity, nor does it show the real thing - appli...
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Mordante, your post was way too smart, intellectual and educational to find the applause it surely deserved. Few really like it to look into a mirror.Logic and philosophy in its consequence does not qualify for be taken serious in personal audio n...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Hi C1ferrari, it is not limited to direct-to-disc recordings. There are a lot great recording out there which can - tracked with the "right" cartridge/tonearm combination - supply the full bodied sound and physical presence one gets from the bette...
