Passive speakers for desktop
Are you placing the speakers on the work top, or on speakers stands to the side? If you have not tried stands (and have the space to do so) I suggest that you try that first with what you currently use.   DeKay
How Did Your First Audiophile Experience Impact Your Audio Journey?
"Paragraphic Frequalizer"... I had a wine customer walk in one day looking for a really good Cabaret Sauvignon. I asked "like the Liza Minnelli movie" and he replied "exactly".  I replied "we have a few in various price ranges, but they are all...
Vintage worth the time to explore?
Do you use the loudness or tone controls (bass/treble) on the Marantz?   DeKay
Anyone prefer horizontal bi-amping their monos?
Pretty certain that the OP has 2 Carver stereo amps per previous posts in other threads.   DeKay
Anyone prefer horizontal bi-amping their monos?
Is looks like you have 2 identical carver stereo amps. From past experience I've preferred horizontal bi-amping with stereo amps in both passive and active/crossover setups. Difficult to describe the difference in sound - it was just more cohera...
How Did Your First Audiophile Experience Impact Your Audio Journey?
My first gobsmack moment was hearing a K-Horn mono tube system around 1959 in a large room playing X-MAS music and popular vocalists of the time. My second GS moment was hearing 2 K-Horns in stereo (same room) the following year (think we were in...
Music for 2022- Is It Just Me Or?..
So Far this year I've purchased 3 albums (CD) and a 13 CD box set Of Jean Ferrat's work (1961-1979).. I have the Ferrat collection (plus more) on LP, but wanted it on CD for the convenience. The last purchase was "A Meeting by the River" Cooder/...
Time to do house cleaning.
Keep the speakers that move you. I used VOTT's in the summer of 1975 (Mac/Dynaco tube gear in a large room with very high ceilings) and aside from their warts/blemishes they made me smile. Watched a YT video of yours in which they sounded better...
Receptacle outlet, nickel plating, is this a problem?
There was  very recent discussion on this (I would just try one of these - as linked in the thread upon confirming that the unit is as pictured).     Or, perhaps the one SOIX ref's.   DeKay
What now?
Something to look into new (rarely see them on the used market). They also have a Plus version with more bass (have not heard it). https://positive-feedback.com/Issue34/silverline_prelude.htm DeKay
Outlet - Shunyata vs Hubble 20 amp
Jumia: The link to Take Five Audio seems to have what you may be looking for, just confirm that it is as pictured. I've purchased from them before and my only comment is that shipping was fairly high, but in these times I really don't care about...
Ditching Class A Amps due to Heat - Sort of a Poll
Ralph: The Sharp sounds more than decent with 4/8 ohm speakers (the super cheap Sonic Impacts were always odd sounding and I even tried powering them with batteries). This is coming from someone who has been using DH/SET 300B/2A3 amps (Audion/Bo...
Ditching Class A Amps due to Heat - Sort of a Poll
Clio and Ralph: Thanks for the feedback. The D amps are pretty old (maybe 20 years). I may try adding an 8 ohm wire-wound to the Sharp as It's set up now @ the computer. I haven't seen the Sonic Impact's for years - not certain if I kept them....
Question to those believing in speaker break in
Pop for the CD Bliss mentions ($20-$25). You can play it with the out of phase thing and it will speed things up considerably. Just be careful with the volume level (keep it lower). Had mine for years.   DeKay
