Driver suggestions for DIY project
The Jordan drivers are not very sensitive (have listened to them twice in different enclosures). I realize that some are running them with approx. 25 watt chip and tube amps, but I consider this to be about as low (in power) as I would go with the...
Are Terminals Necessary?
Osso:As far as I know they are probably only needed with certain cable types. Think that the RCA plugs may be calculated into the design of a 75 ohm digital cable (or @ least they should be it would seem).I have experimented with eliminating the b...
Has Anyone Heard Mueta Amps?...
Has "price check" @ the local Wall Mart been sounding kinder to the ears lately?Just kidding Dawg.
Driver suggestions for DIY project
Bennett:Still using that old amp (thought you /killed/buried it)?If the listening room is medium/large I'll suggest that you look into more sensative speaker designs. For starters you may find the following site interesting.http://f18.parsimony.net...
Where to start? New to Analog
Vaystrem:There have always been tons of decent vintage TT's on Ebay offered by Candian sellers. I assume that many of these were acquired (for resale) from the local thrifts. If you are not in a hurry try cruising the local thrifts in the event tha...
What to do when a crucial piece is in the shop?
I just take long elevator rides. The sound reminds me of my favorite pair of full-range single driver speakers and it makes me smile. So, if you are ever in LA and see a middle aged smiling man loitering in/around an elevator telling people to shoo...
Whats the tubiest sounding preap?
David: Do you still have the Audcom? Your system listing notes that it is remote controlled -w- added Auricaps. Why not go with softer sounding caps (Jensen PIO's, or other vintage PIO's) and some tube rolling?Seem to recall that it used obscure s...
integrated amp that matches well w/ Soliloquy 5.3s
Chuck:Thought I read a recap of your gear before, but now I cannot find it here @ A'Gon. Perhaps you posted this info @ AA?Anyway, post the complete setup (for reference) if you care to.
integrated amp that matches well w/ Soliloquy 5.3s
Have you tried adjusting toe-in? Less toe-in equals softer HF's. Not exactly earth shaking info as you would then be listening slightly off axis.
Gilmore Audio planars revealed
Ed:By the time you get past the shirt and the hard lookin mama the speakers don't seem half bad. All in all, a well designed ad. LOL!
It's No Fun Being a Guru Anymore
CW:Not certain about DVD players, TV's/Screens (I use a cheap Mintek DVD-1600 in our bedroom). However, for the sound part your friend should check out the Yamaha Pianocraft mini systems. I'm familar with the 40 watt version, but recently read of a...
what to do before you get the vpi record cleaner?
Tom:Pick up a "Groovmaster" on Ebay ($25-$35). It seals off the label portion in order that the LP can undergo some serious wet cleaning by hand.Placing a dirty/grungy LP in a commercial cleaner (vacuum or not) will most likely do more damage than...
Best Isolation Devices?
Cheap, easy & effective would be to add a wall shelf (could be mounted directly above the rack) for the CD player. Ask Ken @ Greater Ranges/Neaunace if there is a model he can recommend to be used in combination with one of their Neuance shelv...
Must See Movie About Music
HWY:Did you see any "Folk Art" looking paintings in the Ray Charles segments? A friend sold a bunch of his work to a production company for use in a Ray Charles film, but I have not been able to find it (the movie/film).If it becomes available on ...
People who are Irrationally Afraid of tube amps
Steve:Most of the outright failures I have experienced (aside from stupid abuse/misoperation) have been with SS amps, not tube amps. SS:1: Musical Fidelity X-A1 integrated amp (one power section dead following < 1200 hours of usage - too bad as...
