Streamer for mostly Qobuz with volume control
Any reason you don’t control volume with a proper preamp? I have a Lumin U1 mini which has volume control via a iPhone app and I never use that... I use the preamp remote volume control... And I love the sound of my Qutest...  BTY, Lumin offers a ...
IIR vs FIR filters. Is the sacrifice in fidelity worth the better DSP of FIR?
You might even try this method...  I've had amazing results with this...
Radio Paradise becoming repetitive?
Another vote for SomaFM...  Long time listener...  With a nice kit 320kbp can sound pretty good...
IIR vs FIR filters. Is the sacrifice in fidelity worth the better DSP of FIR?
I will probably catch some flak for saying this... And... If you are comfortable with REW what is the point of using Dirac too? Create some FIR filters and run them thru a convolution engine like HangLoose Convolver and be done with it...  If your...
Electrostatic Speakers Vs. Horn/component Tweeter
This is always a good read when considering amplifiers for ESLs... http://www.atma-sphere.com/en/resources-paradigms-in-amplifier-design.html For stereo music a proper line stage preamplifier is always the best way forward...  And of course the ...
Electrostatic Speakers Vs. Horn/component Tweeter
ML suggests a power amplifier in the 20 to 400 watt range... I think they should do just fine with 150 watts... Although the ESL X are rated at 6 ohms which will cause your AVR to run up 190 watts per channel... Again more than enough to properly ...
Electrostatic Speakers Vs. Horn/component Tweeter
Ok... So, crossover between panel and woofersx2 at 400Hz... I don’t think I would try and bi-amp with an AVR like that... You could be pushing 150 watts x 4 just for RMS... And when panels dive to 2 ohms your pulling 150 x 2 per channel (std) for ...
Electrostatic Speakers Vs. Horn/component Tweeter
It might help if you clarify which ESLs you have...  I have the original Motion ESLs...  Did drive them with a Yamaha AVR...  No thermal issues...  Now drive them with a small McIntosh MC152...  No problem with those autoformers...  You might want...
Electrostatic Speakers Vs. Horn/component Tweeter
Ive had a pair of ML ESLs for a few years now... No problems... The panels crossover to the woofer at 500Hz... And the woofer goes down to 42Hz... I would set your AVR to a full range and cross over the subwoofer itself at around 52Hz... So if you...
Upsampling, Can there be too much?
All DACs in one way or another "shape" their small signals... And some offer "pure" hardware as well as some choice of "filtering"... And then again some DACs offer you both NOS and some other options like upsample rates and filtering... Take the ...
Upsampling, Can there be too much?
For Chord DACs the following is from Rob Watts... "For Hugo 2/Qutest the signal path is: 1FS to 8FS input > 16FS WTA1 filter (49,152 taps) > 256FS WTA 2 filter > 3rd order 2048 FS filter > pulse array noise shaper at 104 MHz > anal...
Chord Dac
The price point of the Qutest and Pontus II is approximately the same...  And you added the Hermes ddc, which is a linear power supply and re-clocker...  I wonder if you tried the Hermes with the Qutest...  With that same extra $1200, could have b...
Best room EQ?
Have a look at Manley or Rupert Neve for some old school EQ...
Chord Qutest
Those Mojo2 "tone controls" look like a 4 band DSP equalizer along with some cross feed modes... Probably good for headphones and not so great for a home stereo system... The Mojo2 is really made as a nice portable DAC for headphones... The Qutest...
Most effective way to add room correction?
Acoustic treatment of the room first...  Base absorbers in the corners...  Wide band absorbers and diffusers as needed...  Use REW to "see" what is going on in the room...  Use EQ sparingly as a last resort...
