Best platter mat, especially for DD turntables
Inna,No, the fact that the SDP works well does not mean that the turntable itself is bad. No more than putting different mats, headshells, damping feet etc means that the design is bad. SDP works well also for belt drive turntables like Micro SX50...
Best platter mat, especially for DD turntables
Halcro,  Note that Acoustical Systems makes tonearm risers to match the height of the SDP. So you do not need new tonearm pods.Interesting point about the pigskin mat. I must try it too on my upcoming TT-801. I managed to snag a couple of Victor ...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Ok, on second thoughts and further reflection, I taken theophile's advice and I've started a new discussion for the SDP mat.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Actually, I don't see this as off-topic. There have been many posts on this thread about mats related to DD turntables. It's all about wringing the best out of vintage DDs. And I happen to think that the SDP is perfect for DDs and may help to re...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
There has been quite a few posts in this thread about platter mats, especially for DD turntables. For my SP10mk3 (Krebs 2 mod), I have tried Boston Mat 1, Micro Seiki CU180 and the TTM Mat with Matching Oil filled clamp (http://www.usaudiomart.c...

Hi Peter,I just bought a TT-801 from Japan. The vacuum suction mat is not working (rubber is gone) but otherwise it is unused unit with original box and all. Can you make a plinth and convert to 120V?

Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes
I have Takatsuki, Sophia Princess, EML and Elrog 300B and EML300B XLS.So far, only the EML300B has started failing on me (lower gain on one channel). But I don't run my 300B for long hours either. FWIW
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
In terms of new physics or fundamental technologies (as someone pointed out, planar was also from the 1930's), there is nothing new since then for loudspeakers. We are still pushing air to make soundwaves and the method of generating air motion is...
Anything you liked at the Newport Show?
I thought the HR4 speakers from OceanWave was very interesting. Only $6k, including built-in bi-amp modules. Very lifelike, great imaging especially for small room, near-field listening. Great value.

Hi Peter (pbnaudio),I'm defintely interested in converting my DP-80 into a similar version of your Groovemaster DP8. How do you compare your DP-8 to your SP10Mk3? Also can you make a 2 arm version of your DP8? I'll send you a pm via your website.

Hi,I just bough a refurbished Denon DP-80 TT from Japan on Yahoo auctions. The seller is a Denon tech and for JPY 16,000 (about US$150) he will replace all caps, diodes and key transistors and also service the bearings and motors. DP-75 is JPY 14k...
FLAC vs WAV
DTC,You are correct about FLAC compression level 0 and uncompressed FLAC. FLAC 0 is not uncompressed. I stand corrected. And dBPoweramp offers uncompressed FLAC.
Going to rip 2000 cds. Which software?
The easiest is to send the CDs to a CD ripping service. The best service, in terms of quality and service is: ReadyToPlay. Here is their link: http://readytoplay.com/It's $1.30 per cd or less if you have more CDs. I have no links with them other t...
FLAC vs WAV
The diferrence in sound between FLAC and WAV/AIFF is real. I hear it too. People confuse lossless as the only contributor to sound quality for digital files. Losslees only means that the file is bit-perfect i.e. No loss of digital bits in the file...
