How many hours weekly do you listen to your system
For serious listening, I'm at 3 to 8 hours per week. Of course I've constantly got music on at the office, but it's in the background (Apple lossless mostly) I also run the system another 4 or 8 hours at home, when I'm working on something else, b...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
Yeah Mrjstark, when you can sit down and listen for six-hours without listener fatigue, you've got a pretty good system and probably don't "need" a new amp. That's where I am with my system also.Dave

Well, I've had my Conrad Johnson CA200 and see no reason that I won't keep it 25-years like my Bryston before it. Since I'll be 60 in a couple of weeks, then it could very well be my last amp. Very little has changed since I started collecting rec...
On The Feeding And Care Of Vienna Mahlers
Looking at pictures of the Soundings room at RMAF, the woofers are facting outward. See:http://live.audiogon.com/i/rmf2007/h/1192929136.jpgI guess the placement is room dependent.Dave
Vienna Acoustics Mahlers too big for my room?
I faced the same issue and ended up with the Beethoven Baby Grands. I'm extremely happy with that choice and prefer the Baby Grands to the Beethovens.Dave
Review: Conrad Johnson CA200 Amplifier
Arthur, thanks for the correction about Yin and Yang.I agree with you about the VA Baby's intergration. I heard the Beethoven first and didn't like the midrange. There seemed to be a nasal coloration that just stood out for me. With some of the sa...
Must see
Tobias, I thought with the 2006 date on the film that it'd already been here, but I didn't find it with a search. Sorry for the repeat. If I weren't a newbie I would have known.Dave
Review: Conrad Johnson CA200 Amplifier
Thanks Sherod. I was just answering a question about cornets over on TH. It's hard to believe that I have almost 6300 posts over there. You're right, it's never too late to pick it back up. About 3-years ago friend that I now play with regularly pi...
Review: Conrad Johnson CA200 Amplifier
Tobias, thank you. I try to put the review in context because I need to know a reviewer before I can find his or her feedback truly useful. In a mag like Stereophile I'll get to know them over a period of months, but here on Audiogon.com, particul...
Noise from phono. Help please.
Noise really ruins my enjoyment of analog (or any media). That's one reason I use a use a high output, 2.5MHz MC cartridge, like my Sumiko Blackbird.Maybe there's a small tradeoff of resolution vs. noise, but I fall on the side of low noise.Dave
High level MC or step up?
No Dig, I'm using the BB in a Pro-ject RM10's stock carbon fiber arm. It's a very compliant cartridge. The Ittok and BB are both in pretty wide use. I'll bet that if you post a separate thread that you'll get a specific answer.Dave

Guido, Rod suggested 200-hours to fully break in the Baby Grands. I'm at 100 and I'm feeling very comfortable. I'm also breaking in a Sumiko Blackbird cartridge, which has under 40-hours. This long weekend is helping a bunch.Since those Mahlers ar...

No, that Sumiko methodology is proprietery. If you bought new from a Sumiko dealer, then I think they'll do it free. If you bought used, then you'll need to find a consultant, most likely at a Sumiko dealer. I think you'll find it worth paying a f...
On The Feeding And Care Of Vienna Mahlers
Guido, you haven't been listening to Sumiko. There's no "ideal distance" from the back and side walls. You need to have Rod from Soundings over to position them optimally in your space. All your issues will magically disappear. You might go ahead a...
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
Wes Montgomery gets my vote, but I have to agree with lots of other great names mentioned. Isn't it great that there are so many valid nominations?Dave
