Yes, the other problem. Auditioning. I travel quite a fair bit so spend time in the UK, Asia, US and mainland Europe. I heard the MC REF V in the UK and Germany on 2 very different systems and compared the REF V to whatever was there at the time. ...

Confused about gain: phono + pre, or just phono?
The phonostage gain with reference to the cartridge has nothing to do with the following preamplifier. What your phonostage needs to do is amplify the signal from the cartridge correctly under 'ideal transfer' characteristics which should give you ...
Confused about gain: phono + pre, or just phono?
Yes 0.25mV will work into 62dB but noise comes into it at these levels. 0.25mV should ideally be used with 65dB as the lower you go in gain the more hiss you'll introduce. Imagine using 0.25mV into a 40dB (MM) then increase the gain to 65dB. As yo...
TW-Acustic Arm
mmmmm. Sounds interesting. A non-TW and non-Audio Origami dealer has just told me to look at the Audio Origami PU7 and get that 'special' in a 10.5". He had a chance to hear both on a TW Raven AC and said the PU7 sounded far more convincing, bette...
Denon 103R or 304?
Expert Stylus in the UK can retip and replace the suspension...great way to go surely.I found the 103R too 'hifi' whereas the 304 more open and musical, both very different IMHO.
Denon 103R or 304?
I'd go for the 304. I've owned both in a modified RB250 and the 304 is CLEARLY far superior in every aspect, BUT the real consideration is this...DL -103R = 0.25mVDL -304 = 0.18mVUnless you have a REALLY quiet phonostage with bags of gain forget t...

No reviews on the REF at all. I spoke to James about it and he said quite interestingly that he did not want the review to get 'lost' in the middle of a world recession. I sort of know what he means. You can't get it reviewed twice by the same mag...

Crystalref...yes, it's true that the MC REF V is a statement product and as such sales won't be in the same ballpark as something like the new 30RDT Special Edition. But as a bench mark for the company it is superb and can see why it is important ...

OK...Paperw8So I'm about 8 weeks into the Whest PS.30RDT Special Edition. How do you want it? It is so far ahead of the PS.30RDT it's a bloody joke - excuse my French :)I had the chance to compare them directly at a fellow audiophiles house who has...

HiI use the standard 65dB/ 100ohms on the PS.30RDT SE but have never experimented because it really sounds amazing. One day I might do it but I'm loving every second of this phonostage.

Hi all especially Paperw8I thought I would follow up on your last posting as to what it all sounds like now the 'dust' and excitment has settled around the Whest PS.30RDT Special Edition.I think I listen to more vinyl NOW than ever before. The Whe...
Changing from an XV1-S
Well guys I have the A90. It certainly is different looking. A skinny looking thing.Chashasl - 'Threadster poses question, two very reputable dealers give sound advice, and threadster ignores advice'. Most dealers have their own pockets in mind......
Changing from an XV1-S
Well I did the demo. The system was a Feickert Woodpecker which is very nice looking with their own 10" tonearm. We compared the XV1-S, Ortofon A90 and Cadenza Black, Lyra Titan and a Musicmaker III (Moving Iron ?). the rest of the system was Ayra ...

I now own a PS.30RDT SE and went from the 30RDT. The difference in audio in quite staggering. Why..I am not too sure and to be honest don't really care. The PS.30RDT outperformed the PH7 when I was looking around for a new stage and the 30RDT SE k...
