Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
If I owned a Lamborghini or other exotic sports car, I wouldn't be putting floor mats in it from Pep Boys. If I felt mats were needed, they would be appropriate and I expect the cost to be as exotic as the car.The same goes for cables, IMO. If my ...
Just entered the world of high resolution audio
WAV is uncompressed but FLAC (compressed but lossless) has better metadata tagging capabilities. FLAC isnt compatible with iTunes if youre still using it. (I use it to manage adding files but play my music using Roon.) ALAC also lossless and compr...
Another "Which DAC?" thread.
Hi @jzzmusician, I am in the same boat and age. However, the DAC I'm using now, Geek Out 1000, will handle PCM up to 384 and DSD256 so the few files I have in those formats play fine in my system. As itchy as I am, I am waiting a bit longer to see...
Just entered the world of high resolution audio
Hi @zavato. When I first purchased HD downloads, I bought a few favorite albums that I already owned in another format. It helped me understand the benefits of "high-res" and whether it was worth the additional investment. Bill Evans' "Waltz For D...
What's going on with the audio market?
Hey @coli I agree about the Mogami cables. LOL. They are a great value. Though in my case it helped to have some decent equipment to start with.

Whats playing on your system today?
I've been reripping my CD library. Yesterday I finished the Ms. I ran across a CD called Soul's Core by Shawn Mullins. Didn't remember buying it. (Remembering how, when, and why I buy music is a not insignificant part of the listening experience. ...
Whats playing on your system today?
@ghosthouse I have to followup and say that Don "Sugarcane" Harris' version of Eleanor Rigby simply rocks it. Tidal has his "Essential Blues Masters" album and I forgot it was still in my Roon queue. There are songs that simply deserve to not be a...
Whats playing on your system today?
My Roon/HQPlayer/Tidal hookup hiccuped and my queue went away as track and track attempted to play and disappeared. Had to Force Quit Roon and restart the MacMini. I took this to mean the audio gods felt that Steely Dan had been played enough on m...
Whats playing on your system today?
Right now, Massive Attack's Mezzanine. I needed the groove. But @ghosthouse planted the Jean Luc Ponty seed so I'll queue up Tidal's Enigmatic Oceans next. And @nutty had to mention Steely Dan and I thought it's been a couple weeks since that awful ...
What's going on with the audio market?
60, 59, ?I'm keeping the faith. Learning as much as I can. Shopping to get a feel for prices. And dealing with my denial about my hearing loss.Lately? Mostly listening. I want to replace my entire system but every so often I hear the kind of music...
Kate Bush The kick inside a masterpiece.
Hey tzh21y thanks for the heads up on this album. I have always enjoyed Kate Bush's artistry but had never listened to The Kick Inside as a single album. (Once again, Tidal serves up a album on demand.)Wuthering Heights and, in particular, The Man...
Great bookshelf or small towers suggestions
I like the HT packages available from Paradigm and KEF. Hopefully there's a dealer near you that handles them.
