Solid State to replace Audio Research REF110? I guess I would ask the OP if the blown tube was an ARC tube, or from a different seller. ARC stands by their tubes and offers a warranty for a time period to include repairs. I have owned five different ARC tube amps, VT100mk2 through my current ...
New KT150 tubes? Are there any integrated amps out that come with KT150's?
McIntosh MC402 I have owned two 402's. After I sold the first one, I missed it, and bought another. So I obviously liked it quite a bit. But compared to the ARC Ref110 I also owned at the time, the 402 sounded leaner, and had less bass. It also felt less powerfu...
Ayre VX-5 Diamond amp It sounds like your VX-5 was not burned in all the way. I have a VX-5 and it is truly an excellent amp. I also have an audio research ref 150 and it competes very well with that amp, although ultimately I do prefer the audio research amp. But it s...
Audio Research Reference 5SE reliability Yes, I don't buy it at all. Why would he see ANY Ref5se's at all? They would be under warranty and returned to ARC for repair... Remarks like that are what is wrong with the Internet. People just make s..t up.
Ayre AX-5 Integrated Amplifier It is arriving Tuesday. I will give it some time and comment after that.
Primaluna Dialogue One or Line Magnetic 218IA? I owned a LM 218 and now a Lm518, and can say that it does have great drive abilities. I imagine it is not a problem in small to mid sized rooms.
Audio Research Corp Ref 5 SE I know it is hard to believe, but I actually found the improvements from 500-600 hrs. to be fairly profound. Up until the, maybe, 300 hour mark, it just did not breathe as freely. It sounded a little constrained. It required a 20 minute warm-up to...
Ayre AX-5 Integrated Amplifier I heard AX-5 last week. I was very impressed. It was interesting because we listened to the amp after listening to expensive tubed gear for over an hour. I normally prefer tubes and they did sound very good but this Ayre amplifier really ticked th...
Audio Research Corp Ref 5 SE Well, I have to tell you, at 300 hours, it is NOT broken in. You will still undergo noticeable improvements. I also owned a Ref3, and then Ref5, and now the 5se. It is after the 500-600 hour mark that the benefits are most apparent. Yes, prior to ...
Which ARC reference component to upgrade? Get the Ref5se. It is quite a step up from the Ref 3. I have owned all the pieces you mention, 3 and 5, and 5se, and 110 and 150. The 5se will easily show it's benefits into a 110, which is still a great amp. But the 150 can't improve what wasn't ...
Metrum Octave First Impressions kzhtoo, it takes about two weeks to really open up. Give it time.
What is the single best pre amp you have ever hear What is your speaker company which showed with Berning?
Well Tempered Amadeus turntable, giant killer? Haven't heard the VPI Classic, but I moved up from an LP 12 I had owned since 1988, fully updated, to a VPI Scout in 2007 or so... I found the Scout to be better in every way. Similarly, I upgraded to the Amadeus last year. It is just a great turn...
Experience with Metrum Octave DAC I find the Octave is sensitive to power cords. I have tried several, but none have been as good as the Lessloss DFPC. I imagine the Signature would pick it up another notch! I also have it plugged into a Stealth Mini. |
