Smooth treble
Ralph, please elucidate: odd order harmonics? I thought these were the harmonics that should be avoided as the plague?Chris
Krell KID vs. Wadia i170.
How can an analog signal from a simple Ipod be better than the it's digital signal converted to analog through a high quality D/A converter? How good the Krell might be, the bottleneck is still the Ipod derived analog signal. The built in DAC insi...
Smooth treble
Mapman, yes it is very direct with high energy content (not very good for da ears), nevertheless it sounds very rich with rich overtones and also... airy. You can also hear there is some warmth (paradoxically) in this loud, aggressive and metallic...
Smooth treble
Hi Ralph, my experience is a bit different than yours. More often I hear "softer" (smoother, less grainy) treble presentation with (fullrange) ribbon speakers. For example years ago I heard the Dali Megalines (ribbon tweeter + midrange with cones ...
Smooth treble
Rleff, yes I still have the Soundlabs. I know this is the amplifier section, but which speaker has smoother highs: Soundlab A-1 or Apogee fullrange ribbon? Why I'm asking this question? If one of the two speakers has more silkier and "smoother" hi...
Which is better longer xlr or speaker cable
David Wilson has long runs of speaker cables in his (residential) listening room. Audio Research has long runs of speaker cable (> 40 feet*) in their listening room. Imagine: 40 feet length of the Siltech G6 speaker cable! Or Purist Audio Domin...
Tannoy Prestige vs Kingdom
Hi Victor (Bvdiman), I'm still using Soundlabs, but I'm also interested in other alternatives, especially the big Tannoy's.Chris
Amp advice for Sound Lab M-2's
Thx for explanation Ralph. Chris
Amp advice for Sound Lab M-2's
Hi Rleff, I haven't done any modification yet. I think you can use a single resistor for the brillance control. But it should be noted that this single resistor could be a mismatch if you for instance change amplifiers or in case of another acoust...
Amp advice for Sound Lab M-2's
Ralph, one thing I don't understand: why should a solid state amplifier run out of steam in the lower frequencies when driving Soundlab A-1's. I've always thought an amplifier has less to do (doesn't have to deliver lots of current) with rising sp...
Tannoy Prestige vs Kingdom
Hi, thx Jim. Do you use solid state or tube amplification?Chris
Room Acoustics question:
If a room sucks you'll never get it right. Even with lots of room acoustic devices (bass traps, diffusors). If the room is quite good (proper acoustic characteristics), then you can optimize it further.Caveat: room dimensions don't guarantee that ...
Has anyone heard FM Acoustics
The FM Acoustics prices are getting out of hand! These are units meant for the very rich or for those crazy audiophiles who have a second mortgage on their real estate (for the sake of audio?).Chris
Amps that sounds similar or close to Lamm hybrids
What is exactly the "Lamm sound"?Chris
Review: Accustic Arts Reference Tube Hybrid DAC II DA converter
TJ and others, do you think the AA Tube DAC's treble is sometimes a bit on the bright side? I prefer a DAC with extremely refined and airy treble.Chris
