What was the first power cable that you noticed a difference in the sound?
Oh, caveat #4,  all my interconnects (excepting coming off the turntable) are XLR fully balanced, so less susceptible to interference.
What was the first power cable that you noticed a difference in the sound?
With one exception, I’ve never noticed a difference. The exception is the power supply running from the controller on my turntable that runs to motors (VPI Avenenger Titan).  It ran very close to the cables coming off my tone arm and created a di...
Floating ground in the apt. Building
Sorry for the multiple posts, but is the ground in the plugs hooked to the metal conduit? Or are we talking just a hot and neutral?  Knob and tube?
Floating ground in the apt. Building
I’m still trying to figure out how a three prong outlet without a grounding wire passes inspection.  I’d really start to worry about what else is wrong in that building. And move to heck out so we don’t have to read about you dying in a fire.
Upgrading cd player
@68pete   +1 on the Esoteric K-03XD. For those that don’t know, Esoteric is the bleeding edge best subsidiary of TEAC. I think it’s a passion project of one of the Toyota heirs, as I can’t see how it possibly makes money. The K-03 has a reall...
Entry CD player question?
@wyoboy  The easiest, of course, is to crack one open and look at the sticker on the transport. But, assuming that is not an option, a little Google-Fu can get you there.  The manuals are generally on-line and a little deep reading of the legal ...
Acoustically Treating a Bomb Shelter
Just to update:  talked with a number of audio room advisors who offer consulting services. Most are just pushing their particular products.  One, in particular, who I'll call "Dennis" was particularly abhorrent example of the acoustic field.  H...
Considering a Second Subwoofer for the Front
What is the size of the room? Have you tested your room for standing waves and whatnot?  What are the existing room treatments? I would almost always use two front subs, assuming the room allows it, but it all dictated by the space you have to u...
Subwoofer Basics Help
Is the sub powered or unpowered? If powered, the “pre” out works.
Entry CD player question?
Back from my day in getting college money working at a shop that repaired video game consoles (lots of PlayStations) I learned to hate all CD transports made by Sony or (more so now) one of its suppliers.  They sadly dominate the industry.   Now...
Looking for an all-in-one just-add-speakers streamer for my son to take to college
Purely based on reviews and Sterophile naming it “component” of the year a bit ago, I just ordered the NAD Masters M33 BluOS Streaming Integrated Amplifier  for Hanukkah for my daughter. Not college, but her room. She streams but also wanted my ...
Do you think driver “break in” is real?
Certainly physical components, yes. But electrical current certainly changes wires and whatnot over time.  It’s called “electro migration” and eventually wears out wires and connections. Takes a ver long time. It makes perfect sense that this pr...
Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse?
I'm probably considered an idiot here, but I bought 12awg OFC copper wire with silver tinning from Amazon Amazon.com: Silverworm 12 AWG Real Silver Plated Flexible Copper Wire 12 AWG by ACER Racing : Electronics ($29 for $25 feet, bought 200 fee...
Bowers & Wilkins 801D4 Signature
Either are lovely speakers, but there is minuscule difference between the two in most circumstances.  I have the 800D3 I bought used here for $19K that I couple with Classe Delta monos.  I auditioned the 801D4 and was never quite sure if I could t...
Acoustically Treating a Bomb Shelter
Well, according to the two detectors, no radon! Re: the poster freaked out about this being a cave.  My wife is, too. The second owner added a Huvco fibreoptic daylighting system to this, but didn't finish.  He put in the collectors and bought f...
