What cartridge on your VPI prime?
I have a Soundsmith AIDA which is awesome....not cheap....but still WORTH every dime.....I have also heard the Sumiko Blackbird which also sounds real nice too. Any Cadenza or 2M Ortofon will work to great affect as well. Depending on your budget,...
VPI or Pro-ject
Extension puts you into the 5k area.....still VERY nice. and a rare extended version of the EVO 12inch arm is standard......LOVE the classy finishes on both the extension 10 and 12. If you go for these...the 'superpack' with the Celebration II car...
upgrading to class D amp.....
I purchased the Wyred for Sound SX1000 mono block amps which we find to be a very compelling and solid choice. They have performed flawlessly for years. Fantastic liquid sound that I have only heard elsewhere in much more expensive equipment. We h...
VPI or Pro-ject
Have to add something else, I have a Soundsmith AIDA on our Prime that is outstanding. If you are not feeling the almost 2k investment, try out the Carmen... It too is an outstanding choice(about $800) The Ortophon 2M black is killer too, only $80...
VPI or Pro-ject
Many good responses, just had to put my thought in... Above all trust your ears. Having heard BOTH the Project and the VPI Prime I love them both, but the things that led me to the VPI was the outstanding customer support, upgradable features that...
How much does your system retail for?

suggestion for turntable upgrade
Best tables in under $2500,IMHO Certified pre owned VPI Classic 1, Scout 1.1/Scout 2 or Project Extension 10 or Clearaudio Concept or used Ovation or Performance. The Linn LP12/Ittock combo is a good one, still keeps up with just about anything un...
Advice - What turntable should I buy ???
Sonicbeauty, I thing you have another outstanding choice there too.
Scout Jr vs Scout 1.1
The Scout Jr is a very decent table that appears to be a lot like the outgoing Traveler. Main advantage here is upgradability over the Traveler. Both are worthy of finding their way into some pretty nice rigs. Main thing here is like you pointed o...
Advice - What turntable should I buy ???
A Clearaudio Concept or a VPI Traveler are IMHO a standout best buy. The Traveler lists for 1500 but is sometimes even being offered with a Ortofon 2M red, which is easily upgradable to blue just by changing the stylus at a later date. The new Sco...
VPI classic 3 or Prime ?
I heard the first one in Covina. I felt the system they had set up smaller but very nice Arial 6t's and Primare integrated. I was originally planning on a classic 3 with 3d arm but unfortunately way out of reach with a working man's budget. The Pr...
Your first amp?
I am thinking back then, the Nirvana system would have been the STA 2200D, with Speakerlab S30 speakers as well as the Akai GXF 91 tape deck, or a Nakamachi BX 300. The ultimate turntable??? Probably first generation LP12. The Speakerlab S3 was th...
Your first amp?
Not better, just different. Less heat, seemingly a lot more power, but keep in mind my speakers got bigger and more sensitive too, which gave the illusion of much more power, 5 db doesn't sound like much, but a teenager with a very loud listening ...
Your first amp?
I have very fond memories of a Heathkit W4AM mono-blocks with matching preamp. Very cool set up modified to push pull at 50W a channel. Class A at 27w. We were the proud owner of these through Junior High School. We received them as a gift from my...
LP12 upgrades
Thank you from everyone for the insightful responses....sound like I better save a lot of coin(for me) and find a decent shop, to start. It seems much better to do that than something I will later regret. I have always liked the classic LP12 sound...
