P E Leon Prima speaker
Man....I was hoping to see "a giant killer," "shhhh-don't let the cat out of the bag," and "best small speaker I ever heard." I hope the silence is due to the fact you haven't heard them, 'cause they sure sound good to me, I was just looking for a...
Mapleshade speaker cables?
I replaced XLO Ultra Type 6 cables with the golden helix and am very happy. I noticed an instant improvement with my system. Very highly recommended! The appearance will raise a few eyebrows, as well as the sound does a few smiles. Charlie
Best female vocals on CD
Looking through my cd collection....only female artists I seem to consistently reach for are Enya, Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, and Rebecca Pidgeon. Just this evening, opened Etta James "Life, Love, and the Blues" (1998) and know I have found som...
Your first stereo system
Tubegroover, it reminds me of the question...."is it better to be a happy pig or an unhappy philosopher?" Charlie
My transport doesn't like my DAC. Help!
Bebo, my Pioneer DV 525 ($250) with the cheap toslink (Acoustic Research from Audio Advisor) plays beautifully with my DAC1. I do hate the cheap feel of the tray on the Pioneer, but you will have 24/96 capability and supposed jitter reduction with...
Your first stereo system
1976. Infinity Qb speakers(MIT tweeters were so cool) with JVC amp and table using a Shure cartridge. Played only loud R & R. Oh yeah, forgot to mention my speaker stands....the cardboard box the speakers were packed in. Sound? ....I seem to r...
What price hi-fi?
Ben, I fear I wasn't clear about part of my post...I referenced my Creek 4330 as it is definitely what a lot of the folks on Audiogon would consider for their "bedroom system." It cost 1/3 of the DAC 1 / DVD combo so I'm not a big spender, obvious...
What CD has the best production/sound?
MCA did a fine job (for a mass produced label) on all of Lyle Lovett's stuff. Start with Joshua Judges Ruth, I promise you will find at least one cut you will fall in love with.
What price hi-fi?
Ben, I share your concerns. I am using the DAC 1 with a DVD transport in my system, and I am very happy with it. Since you are neighbors...I dumped a Micromega Stage 4 for the DAC 1 / DVD combo, and it was an easy call. I don't think you can build...
Entry into tubes
Hello one and all, Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. The exchange of information on this site accelerates the learning curve even though some b.s. get mixed in. As a neophyte, (I have had the Creek for about 2 years,) with a...
A newbie deciding on a transport/DAC
Check these reviews on the Bel Canto DAC 1: http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/belcanto_dac1.htm http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/belcanto_dac1_followup.htm Good luck. Charlie

I sure am getting pissed at the thought of someone with an earned reputation being slandered by some idiot. Some don't have any idea, care, or concern what it means to "earn a reputation." Takes years and lots of transactions. I would also say I a...
Bel Canto Dac1
The DAC 1 sounds wonderful in my system, (with a Pioneer DVD 525 as a transport,) and has been well reviewed in Soundstage. (Check the website for the 2 reviews; one with a toslink connection from a DVD transport, and the other with a couple of ot...

Man, are you guys trying to scare me off right when I was thinking of going tubular?
Best Transport for $300 or less (new/use
I am having good luck using a Pioneer 525 DVD player into the Bel Canto DAC 1. The folks at Bel Canto say that the more expensive DVD's have more features, but no better signal transfer. Good Luck!
