LS50 and Big Fat Dots @Mapman"The earth is hurling around the sun at incredible speeds and through the universe even faster towards God knows what. All while wobbling around on its axis like a misshapen top!!!Thank The Lord for acoustic isolation gadgets. ( and machina...
CORK: Diffuse or Absorb? It seems to me that cork would absorb sound. But, it also makes sense that if it were arrayed in a way other than a flat sheet (i.e. corrugated or misshapen in some fashion, it would diffuse sound very well.
How important is the amp? In the sense that an amplifier is a fundamental and necessary component to any audio system, they are important. As far as it's contribution to the quality of the sonic signature the system produces, provided it is functioning properly and is of a...
Emotiva XSP-1 Question @Mitch4tI know what you mean. It was precisely because of a recommendation to my inquiry about a suitable preamp posted here last week that I purchased the XSP-1. The most experienced and articulate audiophiles in the world congregate here. Lucky ...
Emotiva XSP-1 Question @Mofimadness BINGO! I had completely forgotten about the adjustable gain settings on the various inputs. When I accessed the setting it was at it's minimum (-24 db). A slight adjustment had the desired effect. Thank you so much. Genius' like you a...
What are my preamp choices? Here is the exact text used in the manual when referring to the processor input: "PROCESSOR Analog Inputs. These Inputsgo directly to the power amplifier sectionof the HK 990, bypassing the Volume andTone Control. Here you can connect theFront Cha...
What are my preamp choices? One review of the Emotiva XSP-1 states that this preamp should be used with power amps with an input impedance of at least 10 KOhms. I looked at all the specs on my HK 990 but saw no reference to that specific spec. How can I know that the Emotiva...
What are my preamp choices? @RlwainwrightWow! Thanks Rlwainwright. This piece of gear looks very interesting. Fits my needs very well.
What are my preamp choices? @GeorgelofiAccording to the owner's manual, the unbalanced input labeled "processor" connects directly to the HK990's power amp section. Can't I connect a preamp there? I've never owned separates before, so is there anything else I need to be awar...
What are my preamp choices? @Zd542I live in Houston which is an audio wasteland as far as I can tell. There seems to be a few stores in Dallas or maybe Austin where I could audition gear.
What are my preamp choices? I can completely bypass the HK preamp and connect the output of a preamp directly into the power section of the HK990.
I screwed up Thanks guys. I can see a good preamp in my future. But, since I started this thread I have purchased an ifi Micro iDAC2 bundled with an iPurifier. Using this DAC and bypassing the DAC built into the HK990 has breathed new life into my system. If a...
I screwed up @MartyklNo. I ran it a couple of times, but I prefer to set my system up manually. I cross my Ushers over at 60hz to two SVS and an HSU sub. I do use the room correction functions in JRiver Media Center though.
How did you contract "Audiophilia" @TostadosunidosWas High Fidelity, Inc. the store located on the corner of Guadalupe and 24th, adjacent to UT campus? There was a really nice hifi shop there but I can't remember it's name. There was also a high end audio dealer on I35 near 12th st...
I screwed up A lot cheaper that way too! Right Nonoise? Comparing the price of a state of the art headphone amp and maybe a DAC compared to a new set of Raidho C1.1s or Vivids and a good preamp, the former is a steal! Thanks again. |
