Your feelings on vintage audio.
I'm consistently surprised any members here buy into the "They just don't make them like this anymore" ad headline. This is right up there with "Rare" and "Limited edition".Time marches on! And so does technology. There are classic amp designs, like...
Best drink while listening to your rig?
Chocolate Milk!At room temperature, of course. If I drink my favorite local beer, (Kilt Lifter from 4 Peaks Brewery), I just fall asleep.* At 55, I just can't drink beer daily with dinner, like I did growing up in Milwaukee.......
Dumbest reason you were drawn....
I wanted a Mark Levinson 333 amp, based on John Atkinson's continual praise for the (Madrigal Era) brand. Then I actually heard one on my friend's Wilson Witts.Ouch! I already had a dog, and my Airedale didn't cost $3K.
Rowland Model 6 and 201 in HT Set Up
Nhollis,I would leave the Model 2 stock. This amp puts out (2x)150 watts per channel into 4 ohms, for a total of 300 watts to your center channel.A Model 6 puts out 250 watts into 4 ohms. This is also why a BPS-2 has more amp hours of battery storage...
Rowland Model 6 and 201 in HT Set Up
Nhollis,If you are talking about the Revel Voice I believe it is bi-wireable.Just buy a Rowland Model 2 and use it on the center channel. There's one on Audiogon right now.I use IXOSS speaker cable with my Pass & Rowland amps.I like it very much.
How Important is Dynamic Headroom?
Depends on your speakers.True "Class A" amps like my Pass Aleph 2s have no headroom, by definition. That is Class A.These amps are 160 watts Class A, into 4 ohms, and I've never clipped any speaker I used them with.
How to level match when comparing components?
Go to Radio Shack & get a DB meter.I have an older one, with analog VU meters. You might have to get a digital one now....
Bridging amps, Good idea or bad idea?
The damping factor is also cut in half.More power, (on paper), and less bass.I've tried it with Adcom & Parasound. Both brands sounded better using just one channel of each amp. That allowed the whole stereo amp transformer to supply one channel...
Good speaker match for Aleph 2s
Martay49,I had one James EMB1200 & I bought a JL Audio Fathom 112,to try out. In the meantime I found another James at a good price. I sold the F112 to a friend locally, simply because I prefer 2 subs to one, and also because I haven't upgrade...
Good speaker match for Aleph 2s
Martay49,I've had my Aleph 2s for over 8 years. They've driven everything from Montana SPIIs, through Apogee Mini-Grands.I would suggest you keep everything you have as is, and just add a subwoofer or 2. You can roll off your Aerials, either with a...
Who has found happiness giving up on DACs?
Many years ago I started with an entry level Theta DAC & TLC jitter control.I've had higher level DACs (and digital cables) and tried all the way up to the Theta GenVA (very nice).I'm on my 2nd Electrocompaniet EMC1-Up, this time with the spid...
Bring on the criticism...
I've done this with speakers that didn't even match.Monitors on top of large monitors.I liked it.
Mariachi CDs
Do you have a DVD player?I have a music DVD by Calexico. It is a very well recorded performance, IMO...
which not too expensive amp for Maggie 1.7 ?
There is an Adcom GFA5500 on Audiogon now. This amp is a great match.$600.00. Buy any one with the detachable power cord.
Oppo Fan Noise
Exactly! I paused a Blu Ray, and I thought my toilet was stuck, it sounds almost exactly like water running, when the fan kicks in & you mute or pause a disc........
