Transparent Phono Cable
I have not A/B'd the purist and transparent in my own system so I can't be as helpful as John. I own purist venutas speaker cables and I have heard transparent speaker, IC, and power cables often enough to say that both are very, very good. My bia...
Moody Blues "Question of bal." CD or SACD vs Vinyl
It's very unfortunate that great bands like the Moody Blues and Yes could not get the recording productions they really deserved.Tolerate equipment and recordings, enjoy the music!
Syd Barret - RIP
Nothing we know today as Floyd would exist if Sid had remained. As much as I loved his impact, there has been a huge influence from Gilmour and I think Waters would also be playing second fiddle. There would be no DSOTM, no WYWH, no MLOR, no Anima...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Hey Johnnantais, there's something I mostly agree with you on. And also what Patrickamory is saying. I've had the venerable V15VxMR and a Benz Glider against the 103R. Both of these MC's track as well as the Shure. The combination of 103R/Vector w...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Larry, I though the idea was to shorten my moniker? :) p=f/s, yep. So a surface area of 1.6 u will actually result in a lower pressure. But that is not the real story which is not necessarily total surface are but rather where the contact surface ...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
This theory has been thrashed about on AA and totally debunked. There are perhaps hundreds of users of the 103R, many of them very knowledgeable vinyl-philes, and I've never heard of any reports of vinyl damage due to its use.
Analog vs. CDP: A fair comparison?
Yeah, I can't imagine being without both CDP and vinyl. There's just too much great music out there. I do prefer the vinyl format if I can get it, but there is sooooo much great music out there that I just can't see putting that kind of limit on m...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Larry, I'm still interested in what arm your friend is using.
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
I really like the 103R, even though mine developed some kind of issue where it will issue a pop from the left channel, maybe twice per LP side. What do you want from a $240 cartridge? I've thought about replacing it, but I'd probably go with the l...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Wow,Larry! Slumming or just having fun with the 103R? :)I seem to remember it taking 50+ hours. It sounds very steely for a while.Which arm are you using it on?
SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
Hey Speedy, I've got a classe amp that's currently collecting dust. Too bad it weighs 120lbs and Jersey is long ride from here.
Balanced/Unbalanced --- Whats the difference?
Papi, as for your last question and using your example. If the integrated has balanced inputs only and the CDP only has single ended (RCA) you can use adapters to make the connections. This works, however there is a slight degredation in the sound...
Speaker cable Question?
I knew what you meant, Mitch. I've also heard that position from Mapleshade before. I'm also an EE, but to be honest the last people I would ask about cables are those from the electrical engineering community. All you get is a regirgitation of ma...
Speaker cable Question?
And there are many who dispute Mr. Sprey's findings as being taken as some kind of definitive law. It may have very well been true for the system and cables used in his tests. I'm sure there are many of us who have found contradictions to this. So...
Amp Upgrade for Aerial 10t's
I don't know, Rgs92. Mine image very well, but it is room and placement dependant. Once I got them about 1/3 of the room length from the front wall bass and imaging really came into focus. I agree with you about cables improving their sound. The 1...
