New Stereophile recommended list
I agree with Tubeperson. Stereophile is a shadow of it's former self; Listener is a good read, but generally thin on actual audio substance; TAS, while far from perfect, seems to have the best balance of writing and usable information.Regarding un...
HALCRO Amplifiers
I e-mailed the company after reading the review in the current issue of TAS. The closest dealer to me (Tulsa,OK) is in Virginia, so I guess I won't be listening to the amps any time soon. I sure do like their design concepts, though.
Entry level balanced cables?
Regarding Mryan's comments about "converting" your single-ended (RCA) cables to balanced (XLR) cables, please be aware that the option to do this is going to vary by manufacturer. I have single-ended MIT cables and contacted the manufacturer about...
Linear Tracking Turntables - Best??
I owned the Goldmund Studietto turntable/arm and found it to be extraordinarily revealing. Once set up and dialed in for optimum performance, it was very straightforward to operate. This linear tracker was also a relative bargain ($3,000 new) comp...
Preamp Necessary?
There is a previous thread on this topic in the Sound Advice section titled "CD direct to Amp," but, in brief, yes, all you need to go direct to amp is a CD player with variable outputs/volume control. You can get a used Sony XA7ES in that price r...
Anyone Know Perreaux 2150B?
I have owned a 2150B for over a decade now and it is a fine amp for what it was designed to do. It is rated at 200/wpc of MOSFET output power and has good headroom and can drive virtually any speaker load. I originally bought mine to drive Acousta...
Need help w/older Krell pre-amps????
I was in a similar situation to you not long ago. In fact, I also own a KSA-150. The first question you need to answer is whether or not you need a phono stage. The 7B comes with a built-in phono stage - it is optional on the other two units and t...
ML no39, Wadia 850, Classe 1.0, or Sony?
Tom, It is a rare individual indeed who has actually had more than one of these players in their possession. I think that is why you are getting feedback refering only to one player, and not any direct comparisons between the players. Unfortunatel...
U.P.S., have you had any problems with them?
I didn't notice at first that Hello HiFi was actually the poster of this message/request. Here's what I don't understand - it is evident from all your various posts on this site that not only does your company not ship via UPS, but you also have g...
U.P.S., have you had any problems with them?
My company ships over 100,000 packages every year with UPS and while there is an occasional mishap, overall, they are a superb shipper. They almost always deliver on time, and when they don't, you don't have to pay - even on ground shipments! You ...
