Shopping for a new netbook or laptop...
Apple clearly makes beautiful hardware, but for those of us who have jobs which are not in graphic design, post production, or advertising, Windows still dominates the market. Are any Apple users above running Windows? I would consider an Apple for...
Is anything better than Aleph 3?
I have two questions please.1) Why is "warm" or even "hot" such a deal breaker? Televisions get warm, kitchens get hot, cars and motorbikes get warm and hot. For a great amp, I am happy to remove a layer of clothing.2) Would any of these designs w...
Scotch? No thanks. Whats the best Vodka.?
Tubeking is correct.I am not a vodka enthusiast, but I defer to the Russians.Russian Standard Platinum was recommended as the best to me by very, very, very rich Russian friends. For the longest time, it was impossible to find in the US, but now se...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
GhosthouseAs promised, I bought the lottery tickets. But I have not had time to check and see if we had any winners. I will keep you posted.Re the Cayman, I would certainly think a GT3 is more fun.But I was thinking of this thread having spoken to...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
GhosthouseWith or without your fireproof suit, I would respond by saying that your "workingman's" rig description was consistent with your chippy observations about other peoples' expensive hobbies.Understanding that some people might get carried ...
Bargain Priced "Media Wall"
A coincidence: from another thread, I have just learned about Decware whose products seem very interesting.Their rotary 6 position switchbox is just what I need for the audio, for only $119 http://www.decware.com/newsite/tubes.html
Yamaha Amp Nostalgia
As an update, I finally received and have tried the M2.It sounds surprisingly good with my Tympanis. Not the same transparency or "air" as my trusty Levinson 23.5, but for about 1/4 the value on the used market, I am very impressed.
DIY Nearfield Monitors
Jax2Yes, Radian is the one I was trying to remember!I thought of the idea after seeing a used pair of Galante speakers for sale.Thank you everyone for other interesting ideas....it seems there is a Wilson style DIY cabinet somewhere on the interne...
DIY Nearfield Monitors
Googling around, I realize I meant single or "dual concentric" drivers, but I dont have any experience with either one, just a suspicion that certain designs might offer good, non fatiguing midrange and listening.
Amp stand for Antique Sound Lab Hurricane tube amp
Schipo is correct. For my audio collection, I have just purchased a vintage Yamaha M2 in very nice condition.Last weekend, I discovered the IKEA lack stand. It looks great in black, and is now on sale for $7.99.Could be best deal ever for audio furn...
Why manufactures don“t burn in their amps and ...
It's critically important to "burn in" any component. The initial burn in period will just exceed the length of time during which you would have been allowed to return the component. The remainder of the burn in period will just exceed the length of...
Yamaha Amp Nostalgia
Now we have some nostalgia!Flg2001, yes the A1 was a very interesting amp, and a beautiful design, too. They are not easy to find in good condition and also very well bid on the used market.Elevick, would you suspect the M2 would be Class A as well...
Yamaha Amp Nostalgia
ElevickInteresting you mention those amps - I thought only the B2, M4 and M2 were the real deal, and the ones you mention were all more mass produced.
Yamaha Amp Nostalgia
Yes, I found that link, too.Nice photo, but doesn't say much. There seems to be some debate about whether or not this amp works with lower impedance loads, amoung other things.
Used Processor for Cheap as Dirt Magnepan Theatre
Maybe not quite cheap as dirt, but I just found an old review of the Magnepan home theatre speakers where the reviewer was raving about magical sound and sound stage which came from a Cayin TA-30.I have always used tubed preamps but have never had...
