Calling all acoustic guitar fans...
Wildoats,I suspect he is thinking of "Love Devotion Surrender" which has both acoustic and electric numbers, including a lovely acoustic version of Coltrane's "Naima".
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
I got my first in 1987 at a cd specialty store (remember when that was different than a record store?) as a high school graduation gift to myself. I think the brand was A/D/C may be? It was a brand I had not seen before and have not seen since, bu...

In Heavy Rotation?
All on cd and in no particular order:1) Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (Rolling Stones/Sony--probably ought to upgrade to the Virgin remaster, but I've waited so long I'm afraid they're going to remaster it again)2) Grateful Dead - Dozin' At The ...
BC's 2003 Remasters/Reissues
Sugarbrie, the DSOTM SACD surround mix is new. In fact, I recall reading an article somewhere where Alan Parsons (who did the quad mix) was commenting on it.Another remaster worthy of note: Santana/McLaughlin "Love Devotion Surrender" from 1973 re...
Records of the Year 2003
Kthomas--How would you compare Beck's latest to his previous 2. I've heard it's in the same sort of techno vein. I enjoyed "Who Else", but thought the formula was getting a bit stale for "You Had It Coming", so I haven't gotten around to "Jeff" ye...
Amazing XRCD I just purchased....
Jond--I'm sure there Goners here who can intelligently discuss the XRCD manufacturing process, but I'm not one of them. My comments were based on my recollection of the notes in the XRCDs I have (which I do not have in front of me at the moment) a...
Amazing XRCD I just purchased....
I'm pretty certain that Bomarc is correct that K2s use the same masters as XRCDs. The difference is in the manufacturing process (and of course the packaging). As an aside, I have the XRCD version of Everybody Digs Bill Evans and it has the distort...
"The Yes Album" Remasters
I also have the Atlantic remaster and it's not bad. I've heard different things about the Japanese HDCDs. Some are supposed to be good, others not so good.I'd recommend searching the archives of alt.music.yes (easy to do with google). Sound qualit...
Your Favorite, Most Outstanding Guitar Solo
Nice to see someone else mentioning the perenially underrated Ritchie Blackmore. Off the top of my head, here are two goodies:Blackmore on "Gates of Babylon" from Rainbow's Long Live Rock 'n' Roll.Vinnie Zummo (I think) on "Evil Empire" from Joe J...
The absolute best and worst-sounding CD you own ?
Hey now. Sound quality was the point of the thread and the point of my post. I am aware Nebraska was essentially a demo recording, and I am certainly not knocking the musical content. It is probably my favorite Springsteen album. But there is no q...
The absolute best and worst-sounding CD you own ?
I am not prepared to name a "best" at this point, but I think I have a worst:Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" sounds absolutely abysmal.
Underestimated, song, artist or group '' gems'' ?
I second the Richard Thompson nomination. Although he has even been nominated for a Grammy or two, the average music fan has never heard of him.I'll also nominate John Cale. He's been consistently over-shadowed by Lou Reed in terms of both popular...
Bowie 24 bit remasters....
Actually, I think there are 2 remasters of "Let's Dance." I think EMI remastered Bowie's 80's catalog in the mid-90's (with some bonus tracks) shortly after Rykodisc did his earlier stuff. Then Virgin released a new 24 bit remaster a few years ago...
Songs of the sea and shanties
How about Roger McGuinn's "Cardiff Rose" or Tom Waits' "Singapore"? "Singapore" may not exactly qualify as a shanty, but it is an enteratining nautically themed song.
