choosing interconnect/Speakers/AC -Maestro Utopia
I would go the route the two of you went and get the right components. I do agree that cables are THAT important, but not until you budget and get the best components you can get that gel together. Matching components and listening ot me is the on...
choosing interconnect/Speakers/AC -Maestro Utopia
I never understood paying so much for cables to 'tune' a system. Just get the right components and buy a great neutral cable. I"m liking the AQ stuff right now as it doesn't seem to add anything. I have been an avid MIT guy up until now and I stil...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
was that post for mine? I don't see where I said perfect. In fact, my point was that I have really enjoyed many of those speakers. I have a few sets right now also and have loved them for different reasons. I'm now going to sell off everything as ...
Integrateds: $3K, $4.5K or $5K
for 3500, I have found the Ayre AX7e to be the best integrated I've heard as it's a great mix for tube guys (me) and SS guys. Tight, articulate bass and a huge sound stage and imaging. Also, the mids are sweet and believable. Don't go by the power...

The best speaker you ever heard?
and at the end of the day it really is all about what you hear regardless of measuring. I fell in love with soundstaging and imaging. That was due to the proacs being more involving that way than other speakers I heard. I've since realized that my...
The best speaker you ever heard?
The more I start listening to higher end systems again, I find that it's most important to listen to any speaker in a true system that is put together for that particular speaker. I've heard some great ones sound poorly and visa versa.

have subwoofers come that far that you can really integrate them and not 'hear' them? I've never heard a sub that integrates fully, but I haven't listened to a system with them in years. Do you use two? I would assume that's the only way to do it ...
Vandersteen Treo's
I just got the Ayre ax7e integrated and love it with my proac supertowers and it marries really great with the Treo's. This is the system I loved in John's store. I just got the Music Hall DAC 25.3 with AQ Niagara cables. As soon as I sell my Proa...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I have had problems in the past with most ribbons as most designers don't marry them properly from what I've heard. The Legacy speakers (current) have done a pretty good job. I think I may be sensitive to coherency from top to bottom. I used to lo...
Vandersteen Treo's
I've yet to hear anything negative about John. You can always find someone, but he's just that good. Can't wait to get my MH DAC and AQ cables to finally do computer audio.
Vandersteen Treo's
If still looking you'd be nuts not to get the Ayre AX7e if you can afford it. Get it used if you need to. I am saving for the Treo's and am using it in my system with my ProAc Supertowers that I am selling (just haven't listed yet) and it's magic ...
Legacy Audio AERIS: RMAF/listening impressions?
Aeris and Vandy 5ct are the best under 30k speakers I've heard and that's with various amps/cables. As for Stereo Shop, I've done business with Nic over the years, but mostly with his dad when he owned it. They are family with Gordon Gow of Tribut...
The best speaker you ever heard?
I have loved teh Maggies for years. they are big (if you want full sound) and don't fit everyone's room, but if you can fit them, they sound awesome. I wouldn't buy them for personal reasons, not based on their sound or construction. I nearly did ...
Who makes
I've been around the industry and an avid audiophile since 71 or so. It's really as simple as listening. I've heard a lot of speakers with tubes that were voiced' with SS. If you speak with a lot of the speaker designers, they'll tell you that the...
