Has biwire speaker cabling become "old" ?
forget gauge.  That doesn't really matter.  Geometry and product are more important etc....  Personally I'd try Audioquest or Cardas.  Both are nice.  AQ is very neutral up and down the range and you need the DBS unit to get the best sound.  Type ...
What used speaker would you buy with $20,000-$35,000 and why?
Nola's are very nice speakers.  Bass, go check out the Vandersteen line. If you like NOLA, then you will probably like Vandersteen too.  Lot's of cross over between the two.Map, just because you can put expensive off the shelf parts together, does...
best bookshelf speakers for < $2000?
Funny story on Sierra's.  I knew someone at a local shop.  I had sent a lot of buyers their way and I dealt with the owner since I was a kid.  We were talking about me getting a cheap pair of bookshelf speakers for my bedroom system that would be ...
Vandersteen Quatro CT
DARN you!!!  Reel to Reel?  Really?  Thanks a lot, lol.  Yes the Quatro's are what I want.  Like you I've heard them at a few places and they never ever disappoint.  No matter the room or the gear, they just do what they do and that's revealing mu...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
I love the Codex.  I heard it with my Noble IEM's and Nighhawk's.  I didn't get to listen in balanced mode, but I know that's even better.  The Codex is very very good.  Better than many of the 5k DACs in this discussion, however it's not in the s...

That's a huge reason I like near field listening.  I also love what Richard Vandersteen does with the Quatro's on up.  Tunable bass is a HUGE component in helping so many of the bass issues that rooms have. Especially that darn 60hz buzz most room...

timrhu2,713 posts03-20-2015 7:58am Anytime you can keep signals separate it's usually a good things. The signals are different on each run and it's night to keep them away from each other if you can. Higher resolution systems will shows the differ...

What speaker?  Hello can of worms.  If you are spending 20k on speakers I pray that you go listen first.  That's a lot of money and there are some nice choices.  It all depend on your tastes, the way you hear, your room, gear etc.. My personal is ...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Can't confirm, but personally I just listen to how things sound and never worry about how it's recorded.  I've heard both sound good and both sound like crap.  IRT the Chord DAVE, that would be a deal breaker for me for sure.  There are potentiall...
Vandersteen Quatro CT
Yes the Vandy's are dynamic as well as tuneful.  Not just thump as even some great speakers really are.  When you listen to true subterranean cuts, you realize what you have or what has been missing.  Heck, Richard stopped trying to get a model 9 ...

Thanks for sharing Jeff.  It's amazing to me how much better the DAC's at all levels are getting.  I'm starting to look at DAC's for my iPhone as I'm into portable a bit and I can tell you that even at the 500 on down level it's amazing at what is...

Much more than what it started out as, however it's still digital at the core.
best bookshelf speakers for < $2000?
Mesch, that was funny as I was reading it.  I totally agree with you, lol.  Think about it, how many seasoned guys would say the same thing?  Most?  I think over 90%..Doesn't make it correct, but it makes sense.
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Yes Matt, it does suck, but for many of us, that's the way it is.  I wish I could afford an even better system, but I can live vicariously though many of you guys and visit a lot of dealers whom I know and don't seem to mind me not purchasing with...

Why even bother to change anything if you are moving?  The amp you get may sound fine now, but it may not be the best one moving forward. That's the part of audio I never understood.  Folks should look at their systems as a whole.  We all recommen...
