Linda Ronstadt can't sing anymore.
Wow. I guess the Helen Reddy thread isn't all that disrespectful after all.
How to test balance between right and left channel
Well then, let me enlighten you. It's not the room. It can exacerbate the problem, but it is never the source. The OP is on the right track. It absolutely has to do with signal level as it relates to the output devices within your amp. If both cha...
Damping the analogue "setup"
If you mount it on a wall, you want it to be a 'bearing' wall.
Strange thing happens when I bias my amp
I once accidentally touched the case with a hot probe. Blew a fuse in the amp but also that particular function in the meter. It behaved exactly the same way as the op's afterward.
Your first amp?
Dan, was the Realistic better than the Heathkit?Tim, I just happen to have a Grandson recently rebuilt by Mike Bettinger at Gas Audio. A very fine little amp indeed.
Your first amp?
I bought a 90wpch. NAD DC amp that blew one of my new B&W DM7s in 1978. My first lesson on headroom. I promptly traded it in for a pair of Meridian 105 monos with matching pre.
Strange thing happens when I bias my amp
For ss amps, TNT Audio has a great article explaining how to set the bias of your amp. Google 'adjusting the bias of your amp'. But it doesn't talk about mosfets, only bi-polars. Mosfets are adjusted by removing a rail fuse and putting an ammeter ...
Speakers with their own amps
Check out the "Do active speakers belong in a high end system " thread. It's further down the column.
Oldest piece of gear you own
I just acquired a pair of Advanced Acoustics 440 Bi-Phonic Coupler Speakers from the late 50's - early 60's. My son says they're in great shape as he picked them up for me in Toronto. 22"X19"X4". Apparently the entire wooden face/board is made to ...
Summing up L & R line-level for dual subs
Why would you not want your subs to be in stereo as extensions of L/R main speakers?
'80s Perreax, new Emotiva, lightly used Odyssey?
I've just responded to your first thread. This one's a bit redundant?
Legendary used amp, or economical new one?
If you've done your research on the PMF-1150B, you're aware of it's reputation as a truly hi-end product. The Emotiva is not. It's not old enough technically to not still fulfill that role. It's definitely still competitive. However, it won't perf...
Rating system insanity
RW, it's all dark:)
What Does Holographic Sound Like?
Why do you think he doesn't believe you?
When did you start to love music and why?
Come to think of it, in '65 my dad bought one of those. When it arrived, it had a Herman's Hermits 45 they threw in with it. Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter and Henry the VIII were the cuts. My sister and I literally wore it out. The older...
