1st Album you Ever Owned?
My Dad won a raffle at a local gas station's grand opening.  It was a "Stereo" Garrard record changer with ceramic flipover cat, tube amplifier, speaker and other channel in removeable lid.  Came with a stack of stereo LPs...original cast B'way so...
Can anyone recommend an FM Receiver that would play into a relatively high end system?
My store has an MD106T tuner listed on USAM. First rate option for FM.
Combining 2 channel audio and home theatre
+1 on the integrated amp with HT bypass as the best approach. It’s just the $700.00 budget that is a problem. Ideally, you’d like to get Tidal from a device that can be shared between the AVR and the amp...Node 2i or older 2 can work, but that’s h...
turntable recommendations
Planar 8 w/Ania Pro is around $4000.00 and darn good. Pro-ject Xtension 10 w/Starling is around $5000.00 if you want to go heavyweight. But I most support the Well Tempered Amadeus GTA suggestion. Under $4K. A Benz Ace and you’re under budget and ...
Integrated Tube Amps with Subwoofer out?
Black Ice Audio (formerly Jolida) has a new line of integrated all-tube amps that all feature (mono) Sub outputs.
Better digital front end for my DAC
Were you using a Connect or the new Port?
Phono preamp worth it with MM cartridges?
I share the general disrespect for the Exact, but defend the MM pre in the Elex-R.  What you want is a better cartridge, perhaps a Benz Ace HO?  Boron cantilever line contact nude stone, for under a grand. Another good one is a Hana SH.  And order...
What to upgrade next.
I would begin with a separate 2- channel preamp with HT Bypass. Run all your music sources through it and the L/R preouts from your AVR into the bypass input. Used preamps on Audiomart from Rogue, Odyssey, VTL, etc. can be quite affordable and wil...
Frustrated McIntosh Owner
McIntosh publishes a monthly inventory update that is delivered to dealers.  It’s short on specific production dates but does give some projected timelines on backordered items...so they are at least trying to give customers, via their dealers, re...
How much overhang is ok between a speaker base and the stand top plate?
I use Audioquest Sorbothane mats to adhere my 1 cu. ft. speakers to Target HR50 stands (with stance plates).  These seem to serve well as vibration blockers, metal ringing dampers, and hold the speakers firmly from falling if accidentally bumped. ...
SPDIF cable same as coaxial cable?
Also, one reason often given for preferring coax over optical is that the addition of an LED and photoelectric receiver to the signal path cannot, in most cases, help, when the signal originated as and must return to electronic impulses.
SPDIF cable same as coaxial cable?
It’s worth mentioning that a “composite video” cable is also the same as a digital coaxial cable...same 75 ohm characteristic impedance, same bandwidth. A good AQ YIQ or Monster Silver Digital from yesteryear serves nicely...
IMHO (and friend's) opinion of acrylic platter
Another possible explanation...the 1219’s rubber insert mat is dished, and supports the record at the outer circumference and at the spindle, leaving the recorded surface unsupported. With the added acrylic mat, that deficiency is eliminated. Will...
Dynaco Stereo 120
I usa an Akitika GT102 on my woofers, designed by Dan Joffe of updatemydynaco.com, an aerospace engineer and musician from Huntsville, ALwho is devoted to all things Hafler, pre- Hafler, and post vacuum tubes, that is.  It too uses the wire wound ...
...bookshelf speakers that sound good at low volume...
Yamaha R-N803 has loudness keyed to its room calibration system, a solid 100wpc amp, streaming, a DAC, phono, WiFi, all for $750.00.
