Room size suitable for which Wilsons?
We have a purpose-built mastering room with almost the same dimensions. We have WP7's with the WATCH surround system. We are planning to upgrade to the MAXX3 in the future. I would do this if this were a "normal" room. We lost about 1/3 of the cub...
Multichannel SACD with computer as transport?
No... you can't "rip" an SACD like you can from a CD. But you can capture the DSD data stream from a transport. If anyone wants to know, just email us.
Well-Tempered Golf Ball?
Bill Firebaugh had a prototype a year or two ago when he spoke at our club, the Pacific Northwest Audio Society. The prototype also had a golf ball and I thought it was a joke too. I've had a couple of WTT in the past and was really intrigued list...
Barefoot MM27 Active Speakers for Home Audio
They were dull and lifeless. No emotion. They had phase issues as measured. Bass was overpowering and muddy. They had no soul.... We couldn't work with them.
Playback designs followup?
No, the Playback Designs can't do A to D conversion. We use the EMM Labs ADC8IV or the Digital Audio Denamrk AX24 for that. Yes, we furnish DSD files and if the label wants to downsample, we use Weiss Saracon to downsample to a 44.1k base rate. Mo...
Multichannel SACD with computer as transport?
Sorry, you're wrong. We've been getting DSD information off of SACD for years now and providing download sites hi-rez files. DVD-A also. It's expensive, but it can be done.. both the stereo and multi-channel layer.
Barefoot MM27 Active Speakers for Home Audio
We didn't care for them and instead, got the Focal Twin6/Solo6/Sub6 in a 5.1 config. It's the best we've heard in our room!
Digital Audio Denmark convertors
We have the AX24 with DSD/DXD and mic pre option. We also have the EMM Labs separates and the Playback Designs MPS-5. The MPS-5 is our new Reference Standard! Period!
Playback Designs Firmware Update
I did the update 18 and took the unit to the Pacific NW Audio Society meeting. There were several hi-rez sources we listened to. The other high-end DAC we were comparing it to was the Weiss Minerva. I felt the MPS-5 was slightly bettered at RBCD/9...
Playback designs followup?
I use my MPS-5 in a Professional Mastering room. For the past 4-5 months we have provided every DSD and hi-rez tranfer to a major dowload site. The MPS-5 betters our EMM Labs transport/converters as well as our $18k Digital Audio Denmark converter...
Amp suggestionsfor Wilson Watt Puppies/Sophia
I have the WATT/Puppies and the only amps that I've heard sound good on these are the Pass Labs XA-160. I'm a Mastering engineer and do a lot of Jazz/Orchestra work. Even Mikey Fremer thinks so too! Regards,Bruce
Unhappy with tubes so which transistor amp?
I'd also have to suggest the Pass amps. I got a pair of XA-160 mono's and that's one thing in my system I'll never upgrade... unless it's the XA-200!!Regards,Bruce
New monoblocs for Maxx II, which ones
I have the Pass XA-160's powering theh WATT/Puppies and will never upgrade the amps... Regards,Bruce
Cost no Object but Small Room
I'm building a cost no object room now that is similar in size. I will be using the Wilson WP7 and complete WATCH surround system. This is another RIVES room and though it started out much larger, over 1/3rd of the cubic foot space is bass trappin...
If you had to have an HDCD DAC which one ?
No sure isn't. You can find the occasionally on eBay. Make sure you get the Pacific HDCD 2 since it goes to 96k.Regards,Bruce
