Streaming
First and foremost, there are good sounding recordings, and bad sounding recordings, no matter the format. Some streaming sources do sound better than others, and that is based on the file format and bitrate. Like anything in our hobby, there are ...
Shipping companies
Until the Covid19 crisis is over I doubt you’ll be getting anything out of Spain. My sister lives over there and that place is locked down tight.
i phone/pad streaming
You need the camera adapter cable in order to get USB out for connection to DAC. Apple makes 2 versions of the cable. One just gives you USB out, the other version adds a lightning port so you can charge your device while streaming.
What other Hobbies or Interests Do You Have?
Much to the dismay of my budget I seem to choose hobbies that have the ability to easily drain ones bank account. Besides the money pit of audio I also dabble in astronomy, bicycling, photography, and rc helicopters. Audio is by far the biggest mo...
Which gives better results inexpensive DAC or inexpensive tube Bluetooth pre?
Just a thought. I realize that you’re budget minded, but you might want to consider another service other than Spotify. Tidal, Qobuz, even Amazon HD, will give you better quality files than Spotify.
Fairly new to streaming. Where to start?
I’d recommend the Bluesound for your streamer, then spend the rest of your budget on a good DAC.
Would a stand alone dac help, and how much?
If you want to stay in the Sonos ecosystem I’d take a look at replacing your Connect with the modified version from Wyred 4 Sound. Add a decent external DAC and you’re golden.
Streamer v DAC - which is more important?
Lots of variables. What resolution on Tidal? How resolving is the rest of your system. Quality of cable(s). I’m currently using a Bel Canto e.one Stream to play a Tidal and Qobuz into the internal DAC in my Anthem STR integrated amp. The Bel Canto...
Looking for a plenum-rated balanced cable that won't require a second mortgage
If you’re having a hard time sourcing decent plenum cable just use conduit, then you can use whatever you want. Another advantage of using conduit is that you can add/change cables latter on down the road if need be.
Moving up from a Node 2i
kalali said:I don’t see any references to support for WiFi in some of these            “better” streamers. If WiFi is a requirement, what would be a  recommendation for an upgrade from the Node2/2i?Don’t let WiFi, or lack there of, color your deci...
So I'm up and running with my streamer but....
Apples and oranges. The fair comparison would be the Node into the zDAC. If you still don’t hear a difference then return the Node.
Suggestions for a top flight streamer/Dac around the $2000 mark?
I just received the Bel Canto e.one Stream. Unfortunately the flu has kept me from really putting it through it’s paces.
Node 2i to Lumin D2 using internal DAC
Chances are that either an external DAC for the node, or upgrading to the Lumin D2, will bring an improvement. I would only suggest that you purchase from a vendor that will let you return if not satisfied.
OK, Streamers: "Head" units only...?
@veroguy, thanks for Node vs Mind link. That’s exactly the kind of comparison I’m looking for.
OK, Streamers: "Head" units only...?
I’m in the same boat as the OP, except in my case I want an upgrade from a MacBook Pro. I briefly tried the Bluesound Node 2i but returned it as I couldn’t really hear a difference compared to the Mac. I’m currently approaching analysis paralysis ...
