DAC choices -- help me cross the line
I would fully recomend the Metrum Onyx. It is an incredible DAC. The company should be back up to their old standards as the original owners have bought back the company. I used to own one before I got a TT2 and now am on th the dCS Bartok.
Seeking advice on Speakers that create an intimate 2 channel listening experience
I would suggest you check out Magico. The S1MKII is damn good and the new A5 is supposed to be really good. If can stretch some the S3MKII is incredible. Rockport atria 2 is another good option. As are wilson and YG speakers. I suggest you auditio...
Looking at Focal
Contuzzi. Yes magico does require more power generally. I would disagree about low level listening. I have a pair of s1mk2 and they sound pretty damn good at around 65db. They do sound even better at 75db though. Plus they are a much better build ...
Looking at Focal
Not to throw a wrench into things but at the price point of the kanta 3 you might want to take a look at the magico a3. Imo they are a better built speaker that I would say beats the focal in terms of resolution and has tighter bass and better sta...
Sold My Ayre QB-9 DSD - Help Me Choose A New DAC!
If you are looking for an r2r dac I would suggest the sonnett morpheus. It is designed by the same person that developed the metrum dacs. I used to have a metrum onyx that was really good. The morpheus is supposed to be on about the same level as ...
Magico M9 The new 'norm' in speakers
Wow seems like there is some hate towards Magico here. I hope to be able to hear these on day. I really liked the M6 and the M2 is an incredible speaker. I hope to one day have a pair of M2. Until then I will have to make due with my S1MKII.
All-in-one integrated, 10-15K range, class A/B only
I recomend a hegel h390 and dCS Bartok. Slightly over the price but this combo is incredible. I am waiting to hear the D’agostino progression integrated but it is $23k and I am not sure how that dac implementation will sound.I currently use a Hege...
Chord Dave - Missing soundstage width
I agree on the tin pan Alley rec. The archives version is awesome. If you are looking at the Dave I would recomend trying the Bartok. While it is a bit more expensive it has a network streamer builtin as well. Plus dCS updates the firmware with im...
Help with upgrade bug...
I saw on the totem website that they say the forest goes down to 30hz at -3db in room. That is pretty low. I would like to audition them to see if they really do.
Help with upgrade bug...
The dynaudio c1 confidence platinum is a damn good speaker. I had them before I upgraded to my Magico S1MKII. They have pretty good bass extension as well.
How do you share the sweet spot?
erik_squiresI agree 100% about the Magico S1. I have a Pair of Magico S1MKII and the off axis frequency response is damn good. The best part is they disappear really well and throw a great soundstage too. In the sweet spot they are truly incredibl...
stand-mount speakers for classical music
I know that they are 2k over what you want to spend but I suggest you check out the new magico A1. They are pretty damn remarkable and beat anything in the price range imo.
If you had to start all over again in this day and age
I would not change a thing in my system. I am very pleased with my speaker and headphone setups.
Best bookshelf loudspeakers under 10,000 for the pair
Magico A1 is incredible. Maybe a pair of dynaudio C1 Platinums.
Looking for best streamer without DAC under $3500
I was using the Auralic Aries G1 and then G2 with a Hugo TT2 and they were both great. I found it a bigger improvement than the mscaler. I have since upgraded to the dCS Bartok which I find better than the my old setup by a large margain. Also may...
