He knows everything!
Grace F-9E
One of the reasons I started experimenting with moving magnet and moving iron cartridges is that they seem less fiddly with regards to impedance loading. I was having hell of a time trying to find proper impedance load for moving coil carts. I eve...
Grace F-9E
Yeah. You listened to a lower level product and decided that more advanced versions are not worth it. Clever.
Cartridge burn-in
A pretty decent experiment would be to take one cartridge that has over 50 or over 100 hours on it, and then get another brand new cartridge (the exact same model), and play the two side-by-side on the same turntable, same tonearm, same setup, sam...
Cartridge burn-in
Makers of such esoteric cartridges ought to run them in before sale, don't you think? Which brings up another question: if indeed cartridges need break-in, why don't manufacturers perform that break-in when the cartridge gets assembled? Doing t...
Cartridge burn-in
essentially you should get what you paid for.... right from the get-go. I wish that were the case. But any time I install a brand new cartridge (regardless of the price), at first I get annoyed by the stiff, strenuous sound. After a few days, t...
Cartridge burn-in
Are there any published objective data that measure (using quality recording equipment) the difference in sound as the cartridge breaks-in? Or are all conclusions merely subjective?
Comparing Grace F9 to Empire EDR9 cartridge
Tonearm Jelco SA-750E 10 inches, Nakamichi cables to Dynaco PAS-4 preamp. Dynaco PAS-4 tube phono gain is 40 dB.
Comparing Grace F9 to Empire EDR9 cartridge
My Empire EDR9 sounds sweet and gorgeous. I'm plugging it into Dynaco PAS-4 tube preamp, which has excellent phono stage. When I plug Grace F-9 into the same preamp, the sound is hard and forceful. Maybe Grace needs some break-in?
Finally made the transition to a tube preamp!
Thank you all for such fantastic advices! Wow, what a great bunch of friendly people who all share love for good sound. Question: I am currently using re-tipped Denon DL-103 cartridge (micro ridge stylus on boron cantilever) into Lehmann Audio De...
Finally made the transition to a tube preamp!
Thank you. Yes, the sound delivered via tubes is at a whole different level. It is indeed transformative! Where can I learn more about that arcane skill you call "roll different tubes to tailor to the sound to your liking"?
Carver M-4.0T driving Magnepan MG-1 IMP
I read some old discussion threads on Carver M-4.0T. What puzzles me are people who chimed in to report how this amp fails when it comes to bass. I find that claim very puzzling because I'm hearing amazing, deep, solid, very well articulated bass ...
Empire EDR9 cart into Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp, sounds awful
If I had high audio knowledge levels I wouldn't have the need to ask the questions here, would I?
Empire EDR9 cart into Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp, sounds awful
Heh, what a confusing interface. The phono sound quality for MC is absolutely amazing, but it's so hard to get the MM stage to work properly. Who came up with such terrible user experience? Do the Lehmann designers secretly wish customers would o...
