EAr 834p vs coph nia phono pre amp
caleco, you need to turn up the NAD's volume because it doesn't have enough "gain" to drive the low output from a moving coil cartridge. It would probably be reasonably OK for a moving magnet one. [by the way, there are other threads that explain t...

EAr 834p vs coph nia phono pre amp
I, too, would go with the EAR. The Sept/Oct issue of "The Listener" had a phono stage shootout, inclucing the Coph Nia. It did not come out as well as others, although the EAR was not in their review. Nonetheless, you cannot really go wrong with t...
Anyone use a Pledge "Grab-it" on their vinyl?
Thanks, Sean, for you response. I agree about the economy of scale issue and will look into a cheaper machine. Do you have a recommendation?I have read thread after thread of record cleaning tips and it gets so confusing and seemingly subjective. ...
Best blues guitarist, Clapton or Green
Muddy WatersBuddy GuyYES, Jimi Hendrix was a blues guitarist. From whom did he learn? In whose band did he play? Buddy Guy!Eric Clapton and some other names are great "blues-style" guitarists, but are not "blues guitarists."

Mozart Piano Concerto 21.
This is not an easy question to answer. It is so subjective. Besides the "quality" of the performance and the sonic quality of the recording, there is the matter of modern vs. "original" instruments. Many of the recordings mentioned above are on mo...
Amazing Solo Piano Recordings
Anything by Mikhail Pletnev, the Russian pianist. His recording of "Pictures From An Exhibition" on Virgin is stunning. I can't stand the orchestral version of Pictures...the original piano version is vastly superior. Two other Pletnev recordings ...
Diana Krall's New CD "Live in Paris"????
tomyran,I think Billie Holliday has not come up because the discussion seems to be centered on the "new generation" vocalists. You're right, of course, to identify her as one of the best (ever).I metioned Christine Tobin earlier and I'd like to ad...

EAR 834P vs. Audio Research PH-3
thanks, fatparrot, for the additional info about securing the circuit board. I'll check to see if it is true for mine. It's a little newer, so maybe EAR changed the design.
Tonearm Cable Question
I asked a similar question some time ago, with respect to a Linn. Here are edited (for brevity) responses from TWL and another 'gonner:From TWL:Cp,... I can tell you that the cable routing of the tonearm cable through the P-Clip in the base of the...
Stereo Vs. Mono
Many earlier stereo pressings were too challenging for a stylus to track and, in essence, had to be "dumbed down" for the new stereo gear. The mono versions sound a lot better. Compare the mono release of Dylan's "Highway 61" with the original ste...
Anyone use a Pledge "Grab-it" on their vinyl?
Sean,Which store in Chicago cleans records? I live in the 'burbs and get into town fairly frequently.
Linn or rega
Yes, stay with the Linn, but please get a different cartridge! There are several MM and MC cartridges that will work better than the Sumiko.Twl, I know, likes Denon, while others report excellent results with some of the Dynavector line.
