Spectron musician VS. Pass Labs Amp I also ended up with a Joule-Electra preamp and Spectron monoblock amps. Best sound in my system of what I have tried. Pass amps were on my short list to try until I figured out how much heat they give off. I live in Texas and heat is a real issue...
New Eggleston Savoys ? I have now reached a point where I am happy with my system. I settled on the Spectron monoblock amps with Vcaps and Bybees and a Joule Electra preamp. The Savoys now have the best bass and mid range I have heard from them. The combo just does it f...
Dire Straits Brothers in Arms Comparison We don't own the SACD or XRCD versions. They were not included with the comparison. If I come across one I will give it a listen. The LP is the way to go.
What is your favorite guitar solo of all time? I have a lot of favorite solos but the most hair raising is the original master recording Mobile Fidelity Utradisc II Muddy Waters Folk Singer. The dynamics from low to high are definitely hair raising.
Spectron RS Signature speaker cable auditioning I have settled on JPS Labs Aluminata jumpers. They seem to sound best with what I have heard using the RS Signature speaker cables. I have not heard the RS Signature jumpers as they do not have a demo pair avaiable to test with. I tried the regula...
Speakers with deep base How high are your ceilings? Do you have concrete floors? I have a room half this size and I have trouble making bass but I have 10 foot ceilings and peer and beam wood floors.
Why not horns? My only experience with horns is with Avant Garde Duos and why I choose not to buy a pair of horn speakers. The horns seems to work well in a long room with seating not too close. The subwoofer on the other hand wants to have you seating close. Th...

Signs of poor electricity in home...? I would install an eight foot copper ground rod. Attach it with lightening ground wire and clamp to your main breaker box. This can be bought at Lowes or Home Depot for less than $50.00 bucks. Having a good earth ground helped me with a noise prob...
"Neck and Neck" Mark Knopfler/Chat Atkins Wow,I had not thought about this CD in a long time. I had forgoten how good it was. Thanks for bringing it up. I enjoyed listening to Mark and Chet again.
Mark Levinson No36s When I owned my 36s I also owned the matching 37 transport for the ten or so years I owned the Mark Levinson DAC and transport. I never had a problem with the laser so I can not comment on the laser. Mine always worked. There were a few transports...
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you? The problem with my speakers are they are 8 ohm not low ohms. My speakers suck down as much power as you can feed them. Most amps don't make power until you get into the low ohms.
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you? I do not know the technical details of class D but I have owned the Bel Canto Ref1000. The Ref1000 could not drive my Eggleston Savoy speakers. The bass was lacking and the music was flat. My wife called it 1 dimension. My speakers, I agree are ve...
Duke Ellington - Four symphonic works The only Duke Ellington I have is Money Jungle with Charles Mingus on bass and Max Roach on drums. It is quite good. I am going to look for some more today. What would you suggest? |
