Bent Stylus....what to do?
can you not get the grado retipped? or is retipping the same price as a new grado? van den hul advertises its ability to retip economically any cartridge; might give 'em a try. BTW, i believe a bent stylus can damage your lps', depending in what d...
Best active subwoofer for 4 Quad ESL 57
i suggest you look for a muse model 18 (they're no longer made), together with a "personality card" specifically designed for the quads. for the latter you might want to contact kevin halverson at museelectronics.com. i had a couple of muse 18's t...
"Bridging" an amp
i suggest you contact the manufacturer of your amp. they're each a little different and many simply can't be bridged.
tall front firing Sub for audio?
the wilson whow is actually a down-firing sub. wilson does make a floor-standing upright sub, the xs. it is, however, 84" tall. and quite pricy.
Nordost SPM vs. Quatro Fil
just visted the nordost website, which i should have done before posting. nordost uses the spelling "Quattro Fil" for the ic under discussion. guess we were both wrong.
Nordost SPM vs. Quatro Fil
i recently visited a friend in rhode island who shares my audio interests. while i was at his home, i participated in his auditioning nordost quatrofil ic's as possible replacements for his spm. he has only a single pair of ic's in his system, run...

Graham 2: Reliability Issues
jaica: i've listenened to the graham 2.2 only briefly at ces 2001 and not a/b'd it with the 2.0. i've not seen any technical info on it yet either. the two changes on the 2.2 of which i'm aware are the above-mentioned bearing cap and the counter w...
Graham 2: Reliability Issues
while you're having your arm re-wired, i'd sugest you get the pivot cap replaced with the version on the new 2.2. i've been told this will run you about $365. BTW, i doubt your cartridge problem was related to the tonearm wiring, unless its replac...
Auditioning Audio Gear - The Music Used
as with most folks here, i begin equipment auditions with recordings of male and female voices. my selections change over time, mainly 'cause i eventually get bored with "test" cd's/lp's. for several years i used jennifer warnes' "famous blue rain...
Best Travelin Music
talking heads, "stop making sense". if you can't get off on this, best turn around and head back home. you're not likely to experience a very good day.
Anyone heard "O Brother Where Art Thou?
yeah, this is one of the greats in the "americana," "roots," "folk" genre in many a year. I can only hope that'll inspire a new breed of listeners to explore this favorite variety music of mine.

lucky you, garfish. i was already a dog when these gnostic homilies were released. ( BTW, angela, i'm trying to use the word-a-day method for the expansion of one's vocabulary.)
Guilty Pleasures
tireguy: man, there's some wierd stuff goin' on here. one of the lp's i use as a "test" when auditioning new equipment is "aliens ate my buick" ; best track, of course, is "it don't mean a thing, if you ain't got...." here's another example of a "...
Guilty Pleasures
garfish: here's one that's true, but hard to believe. the night before buddy holly, richie valens and the big bopper died (after performing at the surfer ballroom in northwest iowa), i saw them all in concert at the orpheum theatre in davenport, i...
