Cambridge Audio 751BD has failed--worth repairing?
It was something in the tracking mechanism that failed. The player wouldn't recognize DVDs at all, and CDs played only intermittently with lots of skipping and freezing. Should mention that the CXU gives spectacular video performance to go with it...
HDMI cable for I2S
Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a contact over at PS Audio, so it can't hurt to ask. Meanwhile, I can go with my present pedestrian cables to get an idea of what that's like before I start climbing this upgrade ladder. Stay tuned...
Cambridge Audio 751BD has failed--worth repairing?
Audio Vision San Francisco. I had a very good experience when I bought the 751BD from them back in 2012 and they were extremely helpful to me in resolving this issue. I have to say that the CXU is, in most ways, an upgrade from the 751BD, though t...
Cambridge Audio 751BD has failed--worth repairing?
Update: Through the dealer who sold me the player, I was able to contact Cambridge Audio directly and ended up trading in my 751BD for a substantial discount on a refurbished CXU. I had the option of trading up to a CXUHD (their newest model)...
Cambridge Audio 751BD has failed--worth repairing?
I figure a $200 or $250 repair cost would be about right. If the folks at CA had been more forthcoming about who can do authorized repairs, that would have been helpful. Or is 5 years about the expected life of one of these machines? If so, maybe ...
Troublesome Audio Research DSi200
koonyur, here is what the repair involved, quoted from my invoice: "Power transformer not available from ARC. Removed Power Transformer used a high grade lacquer to reseal unit applied caulking, and bench tested for 3 weeks."It has been working tr...
Troublesome Audio Research DSi200
Update: I had the amplifier repaired by an authorized ARC service provider and fortunately it didn't involve replacing the transformer, which isn't available any more anyway. They applied a new coat of lacquer and anchored the transformer more fir...
Dealers That Sell Large Volumes of Used Gear Online
I’ve had good experiences with both TMR Audio and Spearit Sound. TMR gave me a fair price for trade on an integrated amp (maybe less than I’d be able to sell it for here on Audiogon, but remember they’re running a business and have to factor their...
CD players = dead?
Whatever technology ends up being dominant in the coming years, there still has to be some sort of recording industry to support it and provide content. That's the part I worry about, since the major record companies have been such enthusiastic pa...
A visit to the 2015 California Audio Show
They're doing the show again this July at the Oakland Hilton, and I'm intending to go again, and I'm sure I'll have fun again, too. If the stars line up right, maybe one day I'll visit AXPONA, but that's far from home and there's a wife-factor to ...
Troublesome Audio Research DSi200
A belated thanks, kalali, for your reponse. I'd rather have an authorized service tech do this, owing to my lack of technical knowledge.  I have contacted ARC about this, and though I have received an initial response, things move slowly there so ...
Trade in value to a dealer
Retailers, especially those with a brick-and-mortar store, have to support their overhead which includes staffing, rent, cost of goods, advertising, and all sorts of other expenses. That’s why you would typically get about 50% of what your trade-i...
ProAc comparison
My odyssey with Proac speakers began with a home audition of the Tablettes back in 2002. I really liked them but thought maybe a larger speaker would serve my room better so wound up ordering a pair of Response 1SCs. These turned out to be a compl...
Time to upgrade the old Dual turntable, looking for opinions.
Thanks for the responses. I've certainly looked at the various models of Rega, Music Hall, VPI and Clearaudio among others, but as yet haven't done any active auditioning. At the moment I'm tending toward the used market for this, preferably local...
Balanced interconnect for Hegel H200
Hope this is some help, as I too am a Hegel H200 owner and have experimented a few different cables. My present hookup involves XLR cables between my Bryston BDA1 DAC and the balanced inputs of the Hegel amp. The first XLR cables I used were Audio...
