What Cartridge & Armwand on your Schroder
I've not tried changing arm wands, and I think most people haven't either. Mine is carbon fibre on a model 2. What I do notice is that carbon fibre is faster, more dynamic than the wood versions. The wood models are more organic and have a more fl...
best choice cartridge for my Lamm LP 2
Frankly I would have thought the Lamm should be able to drive quite a number of carts. Nowadays its quite common to find carts whose output exceeds 0.5mv - AT 33PTG, Sumiko Celebration, Koetsu Rosewood Sig, Urushi, some Benz, Clearaudios, Ortofon ...
best choice cartridge for my Lamm LP 2
To answer that question, I don't think its so much the impedence characteristics of the preamps, but rather how much gain (in db) either preamp delivers, which is a question of the preamp's design, number of gain stages, etc...You might want to co...
best choice cartridge for my Lamm LP 2
I reckon you will need at least 0.5mv. You could consider the Jan Allaerts MC1B or the MC1 Mk II.
Tranfiguration Orpheus description
"I really can't see how any phono component can be evaluated other than as part of an evaluation of the complete system."This is a very critical point often overlooked and I wholly-heartedly agree with Larry on this.I too did listen to a host of t...
Any opinions on a new arm for NAS Hyperspace?
I am of the opinion that you should spend more on the arm than the cart. Get a good arm once and for all, then any cart you put on will sound much better than what you paid for it. My own experience with either the Schroeder and the Conductor bear...
Which interconnect from tonearm?
Well, try out a few ICs I did, and I ended up with going with the VdH 501 Silver Hybrid. Sorry Musicdoc, didn't take your advice, but let me explain.I started out with the JPS FX Superconductor, which is a normal line level IC. It is very well shi...
Which interconnect from tonearm?
Raul, thanks for the input, so that means I can go for normal ICs. This widens the pool.Musicdoc, ok noted. Strangely the reports I get from users of the 501 silver are pretty good?!? I have the opportunity to test it before purchase, so we'll see...
Which interconnect from tonearm?
Thanks for the inputs guys. Will check out your recommendations.
Cartridge selection
If its HO MC carts, you should consider the Sumiko and Dynavector carts. I agree with Nsgarch, a low output mc would be best and there are lots of good low priced ones nowadays.
Carts that sound like a Koetsu
Doug/RaulI heard the B&W802 nautilus driven by Pass Labs monoblocks. IMO no doubt they are clean sounding, but it cannot completely remove the box sound, typically a slight hump in the 80-120hz range. I must emphasize it was marginal, and show...
Personal turntable/cartridge evolution
Table updateGot a 2nd arm for the Scheu DL2, the Cartridge Man's Conductor linear air-bearing tonearm. Paired this with the Audio Technica AT33PTG mc cart. The arm is my first foray into linear tracking arms, but knowing their potential and having ...
Carts that sound like a Koetsu
Doug, have you ever considered that it could be that the Koetsu sound does not match your system and therefore you do not like it? IMO the B&W speakers tend to have a boxy coloration which enhances the mid-bass, the exact freqs which the Koets...
Carts that sound like a Koetsu
I'm surprised no one mentioned the Denon 103R, the poor man's Koetsu.
Celebration Cartridge w/VPI table & arm?
Raul, I am aware that each tonearm has its own cable, but unless your phono has multiple inputs, you would have to plug/unplug these cables, no?My phono has only one mc input, so I would have no choice but to do it that way should I get a 2nd arm.
