Anyone tried the Zu Denon 103 yet?
I have the Soundsmith retip 103R with the ruby cantilever and line contact stylus, tracking at 1.58g, loaded at 100ohms. It sounds marvellous. In comparison with the stock 103R, there is more extension at both extremes, it is fast and dynamic. Whil...
Grand Prix Monaco review in new Stereophile- OUCH
Whenever a ground-breaking product comes along, we sometimes have to revaluate our frame of reference, and see if what we are listening to is indeed better, or just different.I'm like many of you, I read Mikey's column and do believe he's telling ...

TriodeTo take the alternative view, for an owner of the GPA to achieve this "harmonically ripe" sound, one could simply acquire a Koetsu, perhaps a RSP, and match it with an equally competent tube phonostage and you would feel any lack of harmonic...
More than one CD player
What I can do is alternate between:a) Denon A11>Benchmark DAC1 via RCA>Preb) Denon A11 (universal player)c) Denon A11>Benchmark DAC1 via XLR>PowerI usually use (a), but when listening to SACDs, I switch to (b). (c) is on an odd night.

Its all about system matching. Get the right cart with the arm, TT AND phono, you will hear magic. Get it wrong, and nothing you spin will sound right.I believe that up to a certain price point, any TT worth its salt, should perform at the top lev...
Vandersteen 2CE Sigs tweeter too high
The 2CEs can be tilted just in case you didn't know.I would NOT send the spikes into the speakers' base and risk damaging the speaker. They were designed to be used with the dedicated Sound Anchor stands.IMO if your chair is too low when the 2CEs ...

I think MF was politely saying its not his cup of tea.Yes, one of their better issues, especially like the Dynaudio C1. However I feel nowadays they seem to be getting anorexic, or is it just me?
Replacement tubes for 5687
Here's an update on the Amperex 7119s: this may not be news to some of you, but they are microphonic, so be careful when using them.I found that whenever I turned up the volume, floor shaking type bass, the tubes turned microphonic and produced a ...
Power Conditioner to the rescue
Hi JtwraceI can't say enough good things about them. If you want quiet and dynamics, they are the way to go. They let the music through. A friend commented that they allow your components to perform optimally, and after powering them with it, do y...
Power Conditioner to the rescue
BanderI don't know if Jerry mentioned it, he's probably quite busy preparing for RMAF, but you got to try out the powercords, especially those from the conditioner to the component. So far I've had great success with the Sorcerer and the Illusion....
Replacement tubes for 5687
Today I received and tried out Raytheons and Sylvannia GB 5687 and was terribly disappointed. The Raytheons sounded worst than the stock Philips JAN5687, too mushy and one side was particularly microphonic.Sylvannia had air around the instruments, ...
Power Conditioner to the rescue
I'm sure you will enjoy it. Darn, he didn't offer it to me??? Your timing must be good! Ops sorry, just realised that I wouldn't be able to use his anyway, the voltage in my country is 220-240v.I'm using the JPS in-wall PCs (customed with UK type ...
Power Conditioner to the rescue
BanderThe amps sound better into the Eclipse. The first obvious sign is more bass, so this may require some retuning of your system. In my case, I had to lower the gain on my sub, twice actually. The next thing which is obvious is that the music i...
Replacement tubes for 5687
Thanks to Irish65, I'm extremely happy with the Amperex 7119 so far, its a huge upgrade from the stock Philips. The body of the mids are very natural, while the rest of the spectrum has no negative drawbacks.I'll be getting a couple of other tubes...
Power Conditioners/Voltage regularts for 230v
Get the Audio Magic Stealth Mini Reference directly from Jerry Ramsey. That would be the lowest cost real solution since your system will sound much better after putting it in.
