Getting The Most Out Of My Scout
Macdad...I agree with you in terms of VPI's surprise, although, believe me, I think Harry Weisfeld/VPI is extremely happy with the response they are seeing with regards to the Classic because, their higher priced tables are very low volume sellers...
Driving a Thiel
Hevac 1...I am not sure where you get that the Thiel CS2.4 goes down to 1ohm...in the attached link, you will see that the speaker stays between 3 and 4 ohms from 100Hz to 50KHz and drops to 2.7ohms (min dip at 600 Hz). So a high quality 4ohm rate...
Looking for a good place to start
Botit...a few things would help folks here give you advice. What is your current system? What budget are you looking at? Also, do you have any local high end audio dealers where you can go and listen to any equipment or better yet that they will b...
Driving a Thiel
Curio...I have had powerful SS amps behind my Thiel 2.4s...I had the Musical Fidelity A5 (250/500/1000 wpc into 8/4/2 ohms) and I had Musical Fidelity KW500s (500/1000/2000 wpc into 8/4/2 ohms). And I upgraded to the Ref 110 with a big smile on my...
Getting The Most Out Of My Scout
Dodgealum...check out this link at AVGuide.com on the Classic tt. There were a bunch of cynical comments about the design of the Classic tt and both Alan Sircom of Hifi+ and Harry Weisfeld (founder and Pres of VPI) responded to the critics/cynics ...
Driving a Thiel
To confirm what Tubeo just said, I drive my Thiel 2.4s with Audio Research's Ref 110 power amp (110 wpc) but it has high quality transformers and overengineered power supply (with 520 Joules of energy storage), providing plenty of headroom for pea...
From Vandersteen 2CE to Devore Gibbons 8 or Focal
ok...then time for a new speaker :-) of your two choices, if you are looking for a less pronounced and smoother treble, the Devores are the way to go. Plus you can use lower powered tube amps with them as they are fairly sensitive and more importa...
From Vandersteen 2CE to Devore Gibbons 8 or Focal
Have you played around with speaker toe-in, placement, and/or room treatments to address the issue before thinking of switching out the speakers?
Ayre KX-R
Topfinadv...glad to hear it. Let us know what you decide. This is the best way to evaluate gear. Glad you got the opportunity to audition it in your system + compare it to the Evo 202 and your current gear. Good luck and happy holidays.
Ayre KX-R
Topfinadv...are you asking if you should shell out $11.5K for the KX-R without getting a chance to audition (let alone audition it in your system)? Because if that's the question, my answer would be I wouldn't do it. Like everything else, excellen...
On a scale of one to ten how would you rate.......
there is not necessarily a difference in quality of the sonic presentation between an interconnect with RCA vs. XLR terminations. The only difference is that the XLRs will typically give you a 6db gain over the RCAs, so at the same volume level, t...

Upgrade from DACMagic? B&W 805S rig
Right now I think my setup sounds pretty good.My advice - if it ain't broke don't fix it chief. Spend the money on music.
Warm Sounding Power Amp or MHDT Havana DAC?
Before spending any casheesh Ryan, have you played around with speaker toe in. The first line of defense against a hot top end is to toe the speakers in towards you so that the tweeters are firing at you. You may lose a bit of soundstage width tha...
Moving into vinyl. Brinkman, TW Raven, GrandPrix??
Maxx1973...i have not heard any of the tables you have listed but at that price point, I would not purchase anything without auditioning in advance multiple times!! The TW Acustic tables are distributed only by Jeff Catalano at Highwatersound in N...
