New audiophile looking for first speakers. HELP
Zakmetal...if you have not purchased the Mesa Boogie amp or Rogue preamp yet, listen to Unsound, and choose the speakers first and then work your way back on electronics. There are plenty of speaker options that will let you rock out in the $1-2K ...
Review: Theta Compli Blu vs Oppo BDP-83 SE
So the $2K premium buys you a better more rigid chassis with resonance damping material and an upgraded power supply, similar to some of the mods currently being offered for the BDP-83SE. As pointed out above, the fact that Theta is fully transpar...
Review: Theta Compli Blu vs Oppo BDP-83 SE
It could be the Lexicon issue all over again unless Theta has come out and said their player is based on an Oppo with modifications. Check out this thread on AVGuide.com: http://www.avguide.com/blog/first-listen-lexicon-bd-30-universal-blu-ray-player
Comparing ARC, Lamm and Modwright Preamps
Rrolack...you should make sure there is no impedance mismatch between the preamp you choose and the SS amp you are pairing it with. What SS amp will you be using? Do you have a chance to hear any of these preamps with your SS amp or no? No better ...
A short review of Avalon TIME speakers
Thx for the review. Just as an fyi, I believe Roy Gregory reviewed this for Hifi+ in the March 2010 issue of the magazine for those interested.
Anyone using a Lyra Delos yet?
By the way, according to the Analog Corner in the current issue of Stereophile, Michael Fremer got a Lyra Delos from the US importer at CES for review, so hopefully in the next couple of months we should see a review from MF on the Delos.
Anyone using a Lyra Delos yet?
I just looked up the compliance on the Lyra website: 12x10cm/dyne. Mniven...I just put the Classic's 10.5SE tonearm effective mass of 12.3g and the Delos's weight of 7.3g and compliance of 12 in the Resonant Frequency formula yields a Resonant Fre...

Anyone using a Lyra Delos yet?
2x4b...thx for the response. I am sure it falls short of the Titan on most every category (as it should like you said). It sounds like it does soundstaging, PRaT, and dynamics well. Also sounds like it is tonally neutral across the frequency spect...

basis 1400 belt & cartridge
Flo...sorry I also forgot to ask what phono stage you have? Can you consider MC carts over and above MM carts based on your phono or no? If only MM or High Output MC, a good fit with your arm and your phono would be:(1) Sumiko Blue Point (list $29...
basis 1400 belt & cartridge
What tonearm does your Basis 1400 have on it right now? Cart recommendations without knowing the tonearm is a bit dicey. You want to make sure you match cartridge weight and compliance with effective mass of the tonearm.
Looking to upgrade my preamp - suggestions?
Yes...with the gain setting on low (6dB), when you move through the volume setting, you get finer gradations in the level than you would at medium gain (12dB) and at high level (18dB). So it just gives you the ability to fine tune levels to where ...

Anyone using a Lyra Delos yet?
The usual suspects recommended for the JMW 10.5SE arm by VPI are Dynas (20X, 17D3), Benz (Ace, Glider S and Wood), and Lyra (Dorian and Argo) in that $700-$1500 range. Presumably if the Delos weighs between 6-13 grams it should work ok with the 10...
