6H30 tubes vs the others I have a CJ CT-5 which uses the same tube. Prior to that I owned a CJ 17LS which used the 6922 tubes. Partly depends on what your after. Tube rolling offers many benefits (and frustrations too) but ultimately keep your focus on the preamp itself a...
Star Sound Tech Sistrum Apprentice: Anyone use the 2.3" platform (SA-102-3)? I had the SP 103-3 under my Pass Labs amp and was very impressed with the results. Not only did the bass improve but the mid-range and top end was smoother with more detail. Bigger sound stage too.I have since moved on to the original Sistrum plat...
~$6K mini-monitor recommendations? The Proac D2R is getting great reviews and is well within your budget. Might be worth a look.Good luck
Acora acoustics granite speakers Heard them last year at the THE show in Long Beach. Overall, very impressive. Really smooth and extended with a natural and organic sound. Keep in mind they are very heavy (obviously!) and pricey, but the sound was top notch in my opinion.
PROAC D48R Bass Booming Your getting some great advice here. I had a similar issue with myD-30R’s. Bass was overpowering my room and sounded a bit sloppy at times. Did the easy stuff first, trying to position them correctly. This helped somewhat. I then replaced the stoc...
LOOKING TO UPGRADE FROM BW 805 NAUTILUS TO COMPACT FLOOR STANDERS I went from a pair of B&W Signature 805’s to the Proac D-30R’s. As nice as the B&W’s were the Proac’s were a huge step up. I find the D-30R to be a much more engaging and musical speaker. Also they are easier to drive and a bit more room f...
Amps for Proac D48R I’m running my D-30R with a Pass Labs XA30.8. No issues what soever with plenty of oomph in reserve. The D-48R’s are pretty efficient so you shouldn’t need a whole lot of power. They do need space to do their thing though so that might explain som...
Pass Labs and Fuses +1 for davidpritchard. I got the SR Blue Fuse on my Pass XA30.8 andthe improvement over the stock fuse was significant. More resolution and air with a smoother sound. I now have the Blue fuses on my preamp and cd player with similar results. One o...
Is the Modwright for an Oppo udp205 worth it? I’ve owned two of digtial mods over the years. First one was the Modwright 999ES and currently own the Modwright Marantz SA8005. As mentioned in this thread, Dan does great work and his support is second to none. In my experience his work is a con...
SACD or not The Marantz is a good choice. I have the Modwright version of the SA8005 and I think you will be happy with the choice. Its an excellent cd player and good SACD player. Its well built and musical player.
Is Revelation Audio out of business ? Being persistent is the best bet. I had to do the same dance with Brad as well. Returned a power cord and took months to get the refund. A shame because he does build nice stuff but his customer service is awful. Good luck!
Fuses on Marantz SA-10? Thanks Nonoise, I don't actually own a SA-10 but am considering it as future upgrade. I looked through the on line manual and nothing about fuses is mentioned. Thanks
Spikes for very heavy speakers Audio Points may be an option here. There are a set that can handle upto 450lbs and you can add the coupling disks or APC-D4 invert to protect the spikes from bending. I should add they also make significant improvement to the sound. Good luck
Hi howdy folks, a quick Vapor question for ya...... Try looking on audiocircle.com on the Owners Circles. There is an forum for Vapor audio there and its still active. You can try posting your question there. Good luck
Triangle Theta vs. B&W 805D3 with Luxman tube amp I owned a pair of Signatures 805's and powered them with a pair of Manley Snappers. In Ultralinear mode (about 100W) they sounded great. If I ran them in Triode mode (about 33W) per side they ran out of steam quickly. Dynamics, bass and sound-stag... |
