Simplest Linear PSU?
@itsjustme Well to be clear - simple is not always better no, but SMD packages and their industrial solder joints wreck havoc on audio information. (As well as their non-audio grade THT versions). And not amplitude measurements, but sonic informat...
Simplest Linear PSU?
Thanks. Teradak looks interesting. I’ve found that, being able to upgrade every component around a transformer can yield better results than a great transformer with a lot of junk around it. I read the audiobacon article a while back, but almost ...
Good cassette player?
Thanks eveyone I'm looking into a Nakamichi.. I've restored some music gear from that era and pretty familiar with the internals.. I recapped some yamaha gear with Audio Note and other stuff. The boards are really easy to work on. I think I shoul...
Can anyone identify this inductor?
Well I can't be sure of the leads (crossover glued in place to the PCB), but it looks identical to the photo I posted but with 30 windings that I can count. Has the same Lundhal (F) marking but no logo. Sounds like its just a high quality inducto...
Can anyone identify this inductor?
Well I looked closer and its not that exact Lundhal. Its slightly larger and only has 30 windings, which seems much fewer than all their others. I can’t identify the core material - that one I mentioned for tube mics says 10x the THD than normal M...
Can anyone identify this inductor?
Amphion. But there are no photos online, probably because the crossovers are tucked way inside and strongly glued in. When I asked them about it, they declined to answer.😏
Can anyone identify this inductor?
I just happened to discover it. Its a Lundahl which was rebranded to the loudspeaker company, maybe a slightly custom one, but markings on the label and the rest of it is identical. Its in the crossover.   Lundhal says :   Tube microphones. Si...
Can anyone identify this inductor?
So what are the benefits to lowering the DCR? I'm trying to back-engineer the decisions they made on this crossover. I am somewhat new to them. thanks
Best room EQ?
I know about ARC, but its a problem - its software based, and I don’t think the EQ algorithms are as good as Weiss. But, whats important is I need a hardware unit which can run on the signal regardless of the source. I should add, although I ment...
ATC or Audio Note (2-way)
I looked at some ATC xovers.. they do have custom caps and inductors. Well, who knows!
ATC or Audio Note (2-way)
I believe AN has the most transparent crossover components (which are available for DIY), seasoning-to-taste not withstanding...no way a company like ATC which mass produces parts is going to have something better. If you've ever done xover or int...
AN Niobium versus Tantalum resistors?
Yes thats especially similar with NOS tubes. Somehow people accept tubes work on this principle, but not cables, resistors, caps...all are nothing but materials which energy flows though, coloring the behavior and result. But I guess some people f...
AN Niobium versus Tantalum resistors?
@teo_audio I've come to liken it to comparing high-end glass for lenses. Zeiss, Leica, or a simple prism from grade school show you what happens when turbulence and time shift occur with light - prismatic effects, halo, chromatic aberrations. Elec...
AN Niobium versus Tantalum resistors?
I recommend replace one position of either the Takman or Z-foil with Niobium. I tried a few combos of this.. small differences of these locations, but in all cases the improvement of Niobium was great!
The sound quality from DACs - is it all the same?
If you look up the definition of a religion, ASR fits 100%.
