Better CD Sound: The Search
So bits ain't bits after all?But surely they are; the biggest problem in digital is dither and clock corruption.I have always wondered why someone doesn't build a player that reads the disc without using any clock, buffers the bits for half a seco...
Whether to do anything about the limitations of our ears
Thanks to all who have posted.onhwy61I was remarking the U47 (as an example) is very flat compared to speakers and phono carts.  So I don't need to know that other mikes are even flatter!!  You just help make my point.Miller, rude as usual, and yo...
Whether to do anything about the limitations of our ears
Thanks for your reply onhwy61But I am not sure you are correct. For example, I looked at the Telefunken U47, perhaps the greatest music recording mike ever designed and I find it is +-3dB from 20Hz to 20kHz.  Pretty flat and flatter than nearly all...
Tiny bridges everywhere, but why?
mijostyn, if you're correct on that then Miller's ceramic insulators are no good either. But if it's good to put magnetic material close to cables (and I'm not endorsing that) then why not insert them longways in a length of iron pipe?
Tube vs solid state (with all apologies)
Just one 'set of springs' Miller? Why, you're reforming!Boing boing.By the way what's this got to do with amplifiers?
Tiny bridges everywhere, but why?
Cheap ones are called 'cable lifters', more costly are 'Cable Elevators'.  Note the capitalisation adds further perceived value. But anyone tried gold-plated cable lifters? If there's an improvement, you can move up to solid gold.Bah.
Top 3 songs to evaluate a system
It's not so much particular music you are looking for, it's WELL-RECORDED music.  Some is good some is bad, some is excellent even in CD format. If you want to evaluate a system see out only excellent recordings, whatever the music. They are much be...
What are ways to fix speaker dips in my speaker or audio room
Soundwise it is counter-intuitive to place the speakers along the long wall.  I read in a recent review that the 10 best sounding concert halls were all rectangles with the orchestra at a short end.You have a good size room but the speakers should...
What do audiophiles do in their cars?
In my collector cars I don't have music, I enjoy the car.In my everyday cars I listen to BBC Radio 4, the best radio channel in the world, and CDs on long overseas trips where R4 is difficult to pick up; I also talk to the wife.Sooliwen Congratula...
Telling musicians to evaluate and choose their instruments in a “scientific” way?
Devising effective tests for audio equipment SQ is child's play compared with doing it for the violin.  Every piece of wood is different.  MDF that most box speakers are made from is pretty much homogeneous. However we still await a comprehensive s...
Audiophile-grade ground rod?
Project ground for billionaire audiophile. The Earth's core is thought to be iron.  Iron is a pretty good conductor. All that is necessary to reach it is a ground rod about 3000 miles long (and a big hammer).  This will be an excellent ground but wi...
Does a Subwoofer Make Spiking Redundant?
Hello Miller, boing boing, you are still wrong.Heretobuy.  Your are saved from suffering bad SQ from Miller's heresy not by your own wisdom but by shortage of funds.  Whatever!  More than one way to save yourself! Most of you have misunderstood OP'...
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
Thanks mijostyn.I quite agree a degree or two of VTA cannot be heard.I was just trying to be nice and pander to Miller and others who say it can, but not in blind tests.Fremer measures his with a microscope although his ears are aging now.Ho hum.
Why are there no tube televisions anymore?
Rudy, technology dies when it is ousted by better technology.viz horse and cart vs car     CRT vs flat screen     VCR vs DVD     bow and arrow vs rapid fire automatic rifle     etc.Valves and vinyl have not been driven from the market because ther...
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
We need to understand that accurate reproduction of wiggles in a microscopic groove can only be achieved if there is a fixed spatial relationship between the TT main bearing and the stylus tip. Otherwise the stylus transmits movement that is not d...
