Will rebuilt Quad ESL 57s take the place on a great $30K dynamic speaker?
@mglik    You correctly observe the 57s are missing some punch on gutsy material.  This has always been the case and there is nothing to be done.  Peter Walker conceived them for operation with quieter music such as chamber groups and voices not b...
New equipment
If you are considering replacing a piece, always try to get a long term audition of it in your own system and room so you can properly evaluate the change it is going to make.  After a week or two your relationship with the changed sound will have...
Qobuz or Apple Music?
Neither.
E-bay and its sellers
Scum are to be found everywhere. Remember if you make contact with someone there is a relatively low likelihood of getting a scammer. But if they make contact with you, a scam is much more likely.
Price Isn't Always Indicitive of Quality or Performance
Don't buy on price.  Buy on extending listening in your own room and your own system. I have gone with silver interconnect for 30+ years now.
What is the best 2 channel listening chair?
No part of the chair must extend near the ears, unless the damping/blanking effect of a headrest is a planned part of your room treatment which it shouldn't be unless you have the most awful room.  So Eames is out unless you remove the headrest. ...

Getting rid of the Linn.
Nordost Cable Listed in Order of Importance
Subjective listening proves nothing.  Have a nice day?  Your hi-fi will sound nicer.
Nordost Cable Listed in Order of Importance
@spenav  I am not wrong on the Linn count. I cannot see how a passive conductor that passes current can act as a filter.  The current simply passes through it.  How does it filter and where does the filtered out element go?  If you want to 'clea...
Nordost Cable Listed in Order of Importance
Nordost's list is taken from Linn, which from the very beginning said the source is the most important element, i;e turntable, arm, cartridge, phono amp etc. I am surprised so many believe power cables are the most important.  I have said this be...
Why did my amp just crash and burn ?
I am so pleased your amp isn't damaged and working again. Yes, lesson learned.  NEVER fiddle with speaker leads regardless of terminal type while the amp is live. In fact don't fiddle with any leads while the system is up. I don't like spade te...
Acoustic Guitar on Vinyl
Segovia from the 1950s on Brunswick.  Mostly mono but no matter. Segovia remains the greatest classical guitarist with impeccable rhythm touch and style.  I have quite a few of these LPs. Thanks for reminding me to get them out again!
low bass response
13 feet is very narrow.  There isn't room for enough air around the speakers.  Consider turning listening area 90 degrees and put speakers along one end of the longer wall. Not sure subs are the answer either in this very small compromised space....
What is your record cleaning regimen?
Typically I get half a dozen plays before an album goes back to the record machine. @ghdprentice  6 plays?   Are you sure you're not eating dinner off them? I have records I bought new 50 years ago and have play dozens of times.  I just run the...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
LInn was very good, groundbreaking in its time (early 70s in fact OP).  In the 70s I had an original spec LP12/Ittok.  But all the upgrades do not and cannot make a silk purse because advancement can only be achieved within the envelope of the ori...
