audio reseach ref 3 or krell KTC...?
Dave b, it is a 300 C not the CX. I can get it upgrade to a 400 CX for $2,500 from Krell. Regardless, I bought it and am picking it up tomorrow. Hopefully it will be better than the fpb 200, which I already love.
bryston14b and krell ksa 250
I believe it is difficult to successfully bi-amp speakers with two different amp brands. I have heard others that have gone through many, many amps before getting it right. Timing can be off, even very incrementally and this will/can result in poo...
Out of phase breaking in, Anywone ever hear of it?
I have also done this for the first couple of days to expedite the process. But typically after 3-4 days, I break down and just put the speakers in my system for the rest of the break-in period.
Krell FPB 300 vs ML 333 for Thiel CS6
I cannot tell you the cost of the .5 upgrade on the ML (but would imagine that this would be easily attainable information directly by e-mailing them), but it is my understanding that yes, it does need to go back. Also, with the Pass Labs, the .5 ...
Calypso Amplifier Matching - Krell?
Yes, I figured I would have to do some tube rolling with this unit to maximize performance. I typically like to run a new tubed unit at least a month before commencing with tube rolling to break in the unit and also familiarize myself with the sta...
Krell FPB 300 vs ML 333 for Thiel CS6
With regard to FrankC's comments, I cannot say that I ever had a problem with my 331.5, but am not sure if the .5 upgrades there were done addressed these cap issues, it would not surprise me as I have heard others mention some "minor" reliability...
Krell FPB 300 vs ML 333 for Thiel CS6
Funny thing is that I have had/have all the amps you have, but slightly different models (ML 331.5, Krell FPB 200, Proceed HPA 3-channel amp). I had Thiel 2.2 speakers. First thing is that typically when I ran the Thiels they were part of a second...
Calypso Amplifier Matching - Krell?
Solntgreen, Thanks for your comments. I am a bit surprised that the sound stage was not as wide with the Calypso. I have read very positive comments on the sound staging ability of the Calypso.I figured I would give up some "crystaline clafity" du...
Room Treatments and WAF? Long
Steve, I have a rectangular set up with the system at the end of the room. One whole side of the room is windows (bad). I ended up purtaining nice curtains in that remain open nearly all of the time and do not impact the benefits of the windows (a...
What should I look for in a Processor??
Not being a super video buff, I am strongly of the opinion that one is better running the video signal, either from the cable converter or DVD player directly to the TV (assumably via an HDMI output/input) and just taking the audio signal to the p...
Most resolving, transparent amps.
The better Krell amps! In my opinion for a power amp to be truly transparent it almost has to be a non-tubed design. I have never heard (which does not mean that they don't exist) a tubed amp that one could truly call transparent. For the most par...
What to upgrade in an exsisting HT setup
Boat, you want the side wall reflections to cross paths either behind you or well infront of you. If these reflections cross paths at your seating position you brain will have a more difficult time adjusting for this and the counter phase signals ...
What to upgrade in an exsisting HT setup
With regard to placement, you can impact the sound very substantially via speaker placement. If you are getting your initial reflections at your seating position based on the present location of your speakers, you will loose potentially quite a bi...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
FWIW, I did communicate with Victor at AH regarding the HT passthrough and it was reported to me that it is an option or feature than can be integrated into the preamps, and at a very, very reasonable price. IMHO, this is a real plus with this pre...
audio reseach ref 3 or krell KTC...?
Dave b, thanks. I checked with Aesthetix and they have reported that they do use coupling capacitors at the output for this form of protection against dc leakage. So, fortunately, no worries. On another note, if one buys a FBP C vs. a non C version...
