House renovation: Help with 3.1(.2) vs 5.1(.2) vs soundbar If you run the in-ceiling speaker wires for the rear speakers, and you don't use them, it won't be a big loss. I suggest you do that and agree with a 5.1 system. It looks like a difficult space for it though. Have the 2 surround speakers there in...
When is a mismatched center OK? When I changed my Paradigm Studio CC to a Paradigm Signature, I caught the bug and upgraded my Studio fronts to the Paradigm Persona 3fs. My intention was to replace the Sig center channel with a Persona B speaker but I absolutely don't need to. I...
Help! Cure for transformer hum? OP, when troubleshooting my subwoofer amp, I connected it to a dedicated microwave receptacle in the kitchen and got the same hum. I still purchased the Emotiva cmx-2 like I mentioned above and the hum went away. I’m not sure if components in the...
Main vs. sub panel for dedicated lines I'm confused about the second (set) ground rod for the 2nd panel issue. I'm familiar with installing two ground rods and connecting to the main panel. Sometimes a second panel (subpanel) is installed on a 2nd floor of a house for circuits in a be...
Listen room Insulation only The room will sound too dead. I've walked throughout my house after insulation in every wall and before the sheetrock, and it was dead. Everywhere you talked, dead. Music would also be the same.
Niagara 1200 and subwoofers Another update, the Emotiva cmx-2 has eliminated the hum on my subwoofer. I probably should experiment with plugging other things on there including my 2nd subwoofer, but for now I’m getting no hum and am happy. The Emotiva cmx-2 definitely works i...
Help! Cure for transformer hum? I’ve had a hum in my subwoofer amp location for a while. It would come intermittently and for no obvious reason. I finally concluded that I was a good candidate for the DC offset issue that was mentioned above. I purchased the Emotiva cmx-2 and th...

Attempting to configure 5.1 with current gear and new Anthem unit- Keep the 2 channel as is and connect the OPPO and Cable box to the Anthem. Connect the Anthem to the ore with interconnects. The rest is using the Anthem's menu to configure which speakers are connected. I'm assuming your pre has a home theater b...
Samsung flat screen TV’s "anyone with experience with the lower end of the 85" range?"I've been looking around for an 85 or larger. I've learned a little bit by watching the very good YouTube reviews. The bottom line is where will you use the TV. Bright room, dark room, w...
Dedicated line question OP, you are thinking correctly. In that sense, same draw as long as you don't plug anything else in.
Dedicated AC line - Contractor wants to use BX instead of romex I'm not certain, but some codes need bx cable ran for the circuits. I know we used romex everywhere unless we had to use bx and even mc cable. We wouldn't have if we weren't forced to by code. Maybe that is what your electrician is talking about.
2 channel setup - Should I add a center channel or $1500 subwoofer? Do you already get the center image from your 2 speakers? When I sit in the center between my speakers, you would swear that the center speaker is on when it isn't. In that case I would get a sub. Short answer is sub, but depends on where you sit...
Old work electrical boxes Never had a problem with the plastic old work boxes. Get the screws nice and tight and it's done. Keep in mind, If you use them, you may need to cut the tabs on the receptacle for the plate to fit.
Installing Dedicated Power Lines -- Need Advice Just a reminder to keep the 120volt cables apart from the telephone, low voltage cabling. Also, has the electrician seen the job yet? Some may want you to replace a panel that doesn't fit more breakers/runs. Replacing the panel alone is not that bi... |
