Speaker magnets
@jasonbourne52I have a pair of 8" Kevlar speakers with magnets that are 2/3 the diameter of the speaker, so presumably they will be better at low frequencies than my pair of 8" vintage Wharfdales that only have around a 2" diameter magnet, or is i...
Guys, this is part of the issue I am asking about in my other thread...
12A @ 120V is an 1800Watt loading, for the majority of domestic amps that would be some failure to blow that.
Mains power quality worldwide.
@millercarbon"I'm sorry. Was this meant to be a serious question?"Yes it was a serious question. After reading so much about it here and elsewhere, I just wanted a clue as to if there is any noticeable differences. Clearly your claim they are all ...
The stereo sounds fine, music is great, but Jeff Bezos came back to earth.
He always looks like the bad guy out of a Bond movie to me. "We meet again Mr Bond" Or maybe he should have a ’Mini Me’ https://theyflyblog.com/2017/05/breaking-is-michael-horn-really-jeff-bezos/
WHAT SONG TOUCHES YOUR HEART THE MOST?
Difficult question, there is so much wonderful music out there, my choice would depend on the day and my mood.
Is it worth replacing an old amp?
My experience is old can be just as good as new. I have two modern albeit Chinese tube amps, one of the Chinese amps is just OK, the other one is poor, experimenting on that one. I also have a 1961 Frank pram 30 integrated, I wouldn’t swap that fo...

Considering an integrated
Well this is just my experience. I have had some integrated amps valve and SS and not been very impressed, they all had problems of some kind. That is until I bought a Frank pram stereo 30 from 1961, it’s an EL84 push pull ultra-linear design . It...
How much reality do you really need?
An exact match to what? And how would you know when you are there?
Help! Cure for transformer hum?
If you don’t mind upsetting your good lady (assumption mad here) you can buy the 555 varnish and do it yourself. The oven only needs to be 80 to 90 degrees to thin the varnish when dipped to allow it to penetrate. Then leave to drip and bake at 80...
So how can a great system solve less than great recordings
Sometimes it's that old 60's Dansette record player that gets the best out of a recording because it doesn't faithfully reproduce everything. Also if you are of a certain age, that's how you remember hearing it :^)
Help! Cure for transformer hum?
As an aside, if the transformer is vibrating, this can also be the windings vibrating as well as the iron laminations. Over time this can cause the windings to short. A dip and bake will stop that.
Help! Cure for transformer hum?
I used to work for a company that repaired and rewound electric motors and generators. See if you can find a company that does this. They can do what they do with the motor stators after rewinding. They put them in an oven and heat them, then dip ...
Uber expensive repair at United Radio
I’m not in the US, but I have never found that good audio repair has to be expensive. It is amazing the services you can turn up with a little ’outside the box’ research. I found a guy less than 10 miles from me who has thousands of hours experien...
Seller ants my credit card info
This happens a lot, and not just to abuse the credit card info given directly. They collect lots of card details that way and sell the list to those that have the means to exploit them.
