DK Design Group vs. Boulder
When I spoke to Daniel Khesin about my own DK MKII (alas, the DK amp is no longer with us, has gone to a happier home), he advised to use the standard inputs as opposed to the "balanced" inputs as they were installed as a convienence for people wi...
Loocking for 6922 tubes for my Audio Research LS7
I prefer the more balanced tonal characteristics of the JJ vs the EH in DK Design MKII, Quicksilver Audio phono pre, Audion Sterling MK I and MK II SET amps. The EH (steel and gold pin) seem to accenuate the mid freq a bit which might be ok with y...
Mit 2 terminator bi wired need help now.
When I had Paradigm Studio CC V2 I had a set (non-biwire) of MIT T2 wire. Tried different combinations of jumpers, using the stereo pair as bi-wire etc, but got better results on both voice and music with a simpler more modern cable. Very best res...
Best "P" mount cartridge?
Rhljazz: Oddly enough this simple thing I have never tried! Will try various stuff before going whole hog for the Seismic Sink. Earlier today picked up a used Quicksilver Audio phono pre to replace the one in my integrated amp. Will tube-roll with...
Best "P" mount cartridge?
I'm using an Ortofon 320 (the P mount version of OM20) in my Technics SL10. Mid range much more palpable and highs smoother than Grado Prestige Blue it replaced. Bass possibly a bit better. Running track force about 1.6 GM which is also when the p...
What A/V receiver to buy?
Keep the Sony, use older switching, this will actually work with your set-up?
Which 5.1 ch Pre?
Anybody see the NuForce 5.1 pre at CES/THEShow this year, the door was locked when I got to it, was a different room than 2 channel stuff? Thanks, Mike.
HDTV Over The Air?
Dave; Iv'e been watching hdtv over the air for about 5 years now and the minimum antenna that worked here in the Sacramento area, about 40-60 miles from cluster of transmitter antennas is the $65.00 Radio Shack mid-level item. Keep in mind the hdt...
When is unequal, equal?
Mang: When I was trying to make my own speaker cables and installing in an asymetrical setup, I found that a difference of 20% length between the two speakers did not seem to matter much, but when the difference was 50% (8ft. length vs 12ft. lengt...
Nordost Cables
For Rnik; Let us know what your system is, possibly some other cable or newer Nordost product would be better.....but to very briefly answer your question, used Blue Heaven (version 2) usually works better in most good/better systems. Good Luck, M...
Slow upgrade from integrated - pre or power first?
Tim; normally I would suggest the power amp first, but in your case with the 2 components you're proposing, I suggest the Modwright pre as it is the superior piece of gear and you may want to upgrade your amp to possibly tube or better than MF amp...
what is the REAL deal with DK
I own a DK VS-1 MKII, but am currently using an Almarro A205A MKII as my 2 channel driver. I have heard the DK MKIII and the Signature model at recent CES/THEshow. At home compared to my mid-line Nakamichi receiver it is sonically superior in all ...
Blu Ray over/under $
Just back from CES myself, saw no apparent quality difference between hd-bluray. However anybody I talked to promoting hd-dvd was very defensive sounding while the blu-ray folks said "done-deal, no contest". There are significant mass-storage adva...
Line Conditioner or New Power Cords?
I agree with Tms0425. As a first step at least a low-to-moderate price power cord on 2 channel and on video/surround a power conditioner. Talking with the the MIT represenative about their power conditioner and the need for power cord, suggested w...
Leads on mid-1960's Siemens NOS CCa 6922 tubes
I tried the late 60's CCa in my DK (this is different that the early 60's CCa) and some other NOS and newer tubes. Myself as well as others that have heard all the tubes in mine prefer the JJ (ABout $20). This whole process took several months. Em...
