What sends shivers down your spine when you play it on your system?
Casta Diva - Maria CallasI don't know what it means (nor want to know), it just sounds other worldly.
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
@ihcho ,"I somehow thought that the 301/309/SPU is at the level of holly grail in turntable community"No one is saying it isn't. At least not far off. Certainly not me.Don't forget that the fabled Technics SP10 itself harkens back to around 1970.
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
Technics SL-1200GR is about as simple as turntables go.Best built and loaded with technology it's tremendous value for money too. All 3 are great turntables but this is the one I'd choose without any hesitation.
Your thoughts and experience with getting the best FM reception/signal?
In the UK digital stations through a television seem to be better than those heavily compressed ones through DAB.Whilst DAB is no doubt a great system the neverending pressure to squeeze in more stations and thereby reducing bandwidth even further...
Good to remember ... how to tell what sounds better
@russ69 ,'The industry pretty much agrees that long term evaluation is the tool used to review products.'The industry most probably would as it serves their interests best. However since most audiophiles want to know which equipment is better, a mo...

Vintage equipment sounds awesome
I'm pretty certain that the best system from 1960 would sound great today. Same goes for every decade since then. The bigger improvements I think are to be found in modest entry level gear.My first 80s system Rega 3, NAD 3020, and AR bookshelf spea...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
@aj523,"Of course I still obessed a little with vibration and swapped out the stock feet for the Symposium rollerback plus and one of their better shelves. And changed the cart to the Aphelion2 which was a nerve racking experience, thank God for t...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge?
@millercarbon, "You want to know the truth? Once a very reasonably affordable level is reached there are a whole lot of turntables that are so good that what you will hear is at least as much due to what the turntable is sitting on as the table it...
$10K Budget for Speakers: Martin Logan Masterpiece vs Tannoy
$10k gives you an awful lot of options. No need to limit it to just two. I know the agony of indecision can be wearing but I think you really should look at other designs. If that’s not possible, then I’d go for the Tannoys too. At the very least th...
Bass Driver Size - how much better is an extra inch?
@bigjohn1995,"So in my experience albeit limited bigger woofers can provide bigger sound but not always deeper bass." Mine too. My 15 inch Tannoy DC drivers certainly have a big sound but I don’t think it goes down as deep as the slimline floorsta...
"New device puts music in your head — no headphones required"
Sci-Fi sound coming in a fast changing world. Soundbeamer tech will certainly remove one or two links in the audio chain.Elon Musk's Neuralink plan to plant a hair thin chip into the human brain seeks to remove even more.Apparently in theory, you’...
Why is black so popular for components?
Yes, my NAD amplifier and both NAD tape decks were all a shade of brown, with small variations. Not enough for incongruity but certainly noticeable.NAD have stuck with brown, albeit a much darker near black shade nowadays. Arcam on the other ditch...
Looking for more detail in a speaker
Some goods points here. @pcrhkr"The room, the long speaker wire runs. Speaker placement, room acoustics. A pair of Radio Shack speakers in a good acoustical room will sound better than $10,000 speakers in a bad room with long speaker runs and poor...
Reminiscing about Dual and AR turntables
