Harman Kardon A300
Ok, thanks for the tip. I did find a tech but I’ll try any potential fix myself.. hopefully I can get this done and save myself some $
Harman Kardon A300
Ice checked my cables and connectors and they all look ok. I’ve switched tubes and thoroughly checked solder joints. I do have a schematic and my hunch tells me that the problem is upstream of the power supply, but being a beginner, I’m starting t...

Already replaced the diodes with UF4007’s.  that whole area I replaced.. the underside of the chassis was black with burn marks… everything is as it should be now (or will be soon). thanks everyone so much for your responses  -I really appreciate...

-can’t believe I didn’t notice this earlier…. Beginner mistake

It’s C23 on the schematic. On the schematic it’s rated as 100uF @200v but the can is rated (as per the piece of paper between the metal and the cardboard covering) 60-100uF @ 350 volts. Everything on the unit looks original although I suppose the ...

Yes, thanks for the response. I’ve never seen a power cap with a range specification (I’m sure there are those out there who’ve seen this before). I don’t really understand the ‘hot can’ part of the equation and any time I’ve replaced caps I’ve al...
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong
Please don’t get drawn into this subjective nonsense.  Any ice cream that isn’t vanilla sucks -prove me wrong!
TRAVELING TO JAPAN! Recommendations for shops for cartridges?
For CD’s look for a second hand store called ‘hard off’. Unfortunately I can’t recall which one but they are all over the place and some of them have a very large selection of pre owned cd’s, and since the Japanese tend to take care of their belon...
Buying Used Equipment on the Internet
Problem with eBay is that many sellers pick stuff up at estate sales or storage spaces etc. they have no idea how to test things and probably don’t care to. Unfortunately you have to accept the risk involved and be willing to repair it either by y...
Can’t buy output tubes anywhere except from manufacturers at high prices.
”No output tubes available”  Um, what? Are we getting trolled?
"But it sounds better at night...."
I never listen during the day because my brain is too active. I can’t back this up with a scientifically based argument but I put it down to brain chemistry and circadian rhythm. There are less distractions at night.. also daylight is stimulating,...
How can you evaluate a system with highly processed music?
You can’t evaluate your system’s abilities by playback of electronic and highly produced pop. I found that all my systems can recreate those genres effortlessly. My non-audiophile friends (sounds arrogant of me) always lose their minds when I play...
Variac noise
Ok, I’m very interested by this. I still need to speak with my tech friend about maybe creating one of these for me. You’re right about step down transformer cost. Was eyeing one for $187… it’s huge and ugly as well
Variac noise
Not disinterested in your method. I’ve been trying to reach a tech friend who could try your idea. Also looking into a step down transformer as a possibility.  I really appreciate your input as well as the others.  thanks!
Variac noise
Also possibly worth noting: when I power it on (amp plugged into it) it produces a very soft acceptable hum, but as the amp warms up over about 20 seconds, the hum starts taking on a buzzing quality. -sorry, troubleshooting electronics is not som...
