All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong Please don’t get drawn into this subjective nonsense. Any ice cream that isn’t vanilla sucks -prove me wrong!
TRAVELING TO JAPAN! Recommendations for shops for cartridges? For CD’s look for a second hand store called ‘hard off’. Unfortunately I can’t recall which one but they are all over the place and some of them have a very large selection of pre owned cd’s, and since the Japanese tend to take care of their belon...
Buying Used Equipment on the Internet Problem with eBay is that many sellers pick stuff up at estate sales or storage spaces etc. they have no idea how to test things and probably don’t care to. Unfortunately you have to accept the risk involved and be willing to repair it either by y...

Variac noise Not disinterested in your method. I’ve been trying to reach a tech friend who could try your idea. Also looking into a step down transformer as a possibility. I really appreciate your input as well as the others. thanks!
Variac noise Also possibly worth noting: when I power it on (amp plugged into it) it produces a very soft acceptable hum, but as the amp warms up over about 20 seconds, the hum starts taking on a buzzing quality. -sorry, troubleshooting electronics is not som...
Variac noise The amp is 50-60hz if by “bypass the variac” you mean nothing plugged in to it, then yes, and it’s completely silent.
Good (great?) cartridges with user replaceable styli The M series Ortofon all have replacement styli but they are nearly as expensive at the complete cartridge. Grado and Sumiko as well but not sure which models. You can check out audioadvisor, which sells a few different styli. |
