most accurate loudspeakers....
I would vote for any speaker that:(1) Has ruler-flat frequency response, at all power levels;(2) Is completely phase coherent, at all frequencies and at all power levels;(3) Has a completely resistive load at all frequencies, in order to present a...
New Audiophile - Upgrade Amp First or CDP First?
Are there high-end stores in your area? If so, I would stop in at a shop and listen to some gear. Find a CDP or amplifier that you like and try it in your system. The reason I say this is because it will be difficult to determine which would make ...
Report from Rocky Mountain AudioFest
Pscialli - I did notice one blind gentleman on Sunday, although I don't know who it was.I too found the Wilsons to sound exceptional. Never really liked them much before, but the Maxx and Sophias were very impressive.
How many have heard the Beveridge Electrostatics?
I heard them at RMAF. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt due to "show conditions" but I swear they were missing the top octave or more. Quite frankly, I've never heard a favorite CD of mine sound so closed in and congested. Maybe someone can ...
Report from Rocky Mountain AudioFest
Regarding the 'too loud' and 'bad sound' problems at the show, here's my take. Most speaker manufacturers, it seems, wanted to bring their flagship model. These are typically large. As in 'far too large for a tiny hotel room.' In general, I found ...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase
This definitely takes the cake for most hilarious post on the 'gon.I have a pretty nice rig. I have never told the truth regarding cost of any component. In fact, I bought my line arrays a month before I got married. When asked how much they cost, ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Now: 1998 Subaru OutbackFuture: Newer (but still used) Subaru OutbackCost no object: Brand new Subaru OutbackCars bore me. I prefer to ride / race my Colnago road bike whenever possible.
Krell SACD Standard question....
Suit yourself, but I'd sure stay away from players that have a well-documented history of problems, especially since the warranty won't apply. Do a search on Audio Asylum. You may change your mind...
master clock with single-box player
Guidocorona - Thanks for the info. I may end up trying one if I see it in a shop, but probably won't expend the effort to track one down for an audition. Looks like a review at 6 moons found the external clock to be unnecessary in a situation simi...
CD player straight into amps?
I have a dCS P8i that I run (balanced) directly into a pair of BAT VK-120s (which I've modified quite a bit). I tried seven line stage preamps that ranged in price from $8k to $17k, but found that the sound was better in every situation, in varyin...
Line Arrays - Competitive with best dynanics, ESL?
ESLs are the Jaguars of the audio world. Great...when they're not in the shop. Reliability has improved, but is a serious detractor for people who would like to listen to music on a regular basis. I don't even consider them an option.
Subwoofer tweaks
Member Dgarretson reports serious improvements in his Velodyne by replacing the diode bridges. Take a look at his system.
