tubes and rock and roll, good fit?
Just as a reference point: the entire Woodstock Festival was amplified with four McIntosh tube amps. Rock and Roll started with tubes, including the amps used by the guitar players.
Narrower spindle for Thorens turntable
Thanks to all of you who responded. For a while I thought I wouldn't get any feedback. I guess I'll use the pencil/reamer solution for now. I'm leary of machining the spindle given how difficult it is to find parts and someone who will work on the...
Suggestions for a good phono stage
I love my Jolida JD-9. Adjustable load and gain!
An Advent Guy
I have four systems in play at the moment. My "vintage" system consists of a pair of large Advent speakers, Scott 299 integrated amplifier (tube) Scott 350B Tuner (tube) and a Thorens TD 125 MKII turntable with a Soundsmith cartridge. My other sys...
Bellari VP 129 vs B&K Phono 10
I have the Bellari and a Jolida JD-9. The Jolida is hands down the winner. Adjustable gain and impedence, wonderful clear detailed sound. I exchanged the EH 12AX7's that came with it to GE 5751 tubes for a mellower, midrange rich sound. Highly rec...
Connectors that convert spades to bananas?
I'm using the Philmore angled spade to banana connectors sold by Handmade Electronics on my Scott tube amp and they work fine. You attach them to the spade connectors on your amp and then plug in your banana terminated speaker cable.
Amp switcher
Sorry, you are right! I am using the SPK-1 (with automatic switching and the larger binding posts). Didn't mean to confuse everyone. I did not pay close attention to the mdel designation in the original post and assumed you were asking about the S...
Amp switcher
I use Audioquest Slate speaker cables in my setup. The Niles is triggered by a 12v switch that you hook up to one of the amplifiers. When that amp is powered up, the switch is triggered and the load goes from that amp to the speakers. If you don't...
Amp switcher
I have one and it works quite well. I have an Onkyo 875 receiver and a Cayin A88T tube amp connected to it. The switching is automatic upon powering up the Onkyo. No degradation in sound whatsoever. I use the Cayin for 2 channel listening and the ...
Upgrading Cayin A88-T: what is next?
Have you tried tube rolling? I have this amp and put Genalex Gold Lion KT88 tubes in it. I like the combo. Also, the amp will accept 6550 tubes, but you have to reset the bias. Some owners prefer the sound of 6550's to KT88'sI also replaced the 6S...
Onix SP3: What speakers are you using?
Rhanechak-Here is a link to the Sterophile review of the large Avent loudspeakers: http://stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/171advent/As you can see from the review, they are detailed, neutral and accurate. I had the speakers in a very large room ...
Onix SP3: What speakers are you using?
Had mine hooked up to a pair of vintage large Advents, as neutral a speaker as you can find; very good combination. Now I have it hooked up to a pair of Onix ELT525 monitors and an Energy subwoofer. This little wonder did well with both sets of sp...
Problem with tube amp
Intermittent noises can sometimes be a bad power tube. Hae you tested them?BTW I have this amp and I have not had this problem, but I was having intermitent noise issues with my Onix SP-3 and it was a bad Valve Art 350B tube.
Original vs. imitation ; MC275 vs. Cayin A88T
McIntosh equipment is good, but it is not as good as the hype surrounding it would have you believe. In the late 60's and early 70's I knew a guy who worked at a stereo shop that sold McIntosh. They sold a lot of it based on the name and the hype....
Most musical integrated amp you have heard?
Cayin A-88T
