Speakers: all-time favorite
The Paragon Acoustics Radiants are a terrific value for $2850, although I haven't compared them directly with the Vandersteen 3 Signature. I doubt they would beat the Paragons. These are even a better value than the Paragon Regents. I augment mine...
Get a DAC for CD63SE or a new CD?
Unless your CD player's transport is worn some, you still couldn't beat the DAC-1 with a player of similar price, even with problems of jitter. Have a look at their website: www.belcantodesign.com
Speaker Cable upgrade
Redkiwi: Gee, I'm sorry I offended you so much. I can see that you're closed minded on mixing different manufacturers' cables. Twenty years experience or not, I can hear better than you, and am also more open minded about cabling than you. When I ...
Vote for best US made solid state amp
TO PHIL "ICERAVEN": I say Krell makes the best amps (and I'm NOT ALONE), but I'm not sure which model is the best price/performance value (if there's no limit on the money spent)...not that Brian cared to be that specific in his original question....
ML Aerius I, Moon W-3, Wadia 830
I agree that you won't need a preamp. That's a given, you'd be stupid to put one there. BUT THERE IS A BETTER CD PLAYER THAN THE 830, and it works even better running straight into the power amp: The Resolution Audio CD50. Just put a "want to buy"...
Best CD player now made.
The Resolution Audio CD-50 beats any Wadia, especially the 830. Bring it by for a shootout anytime, cause this one is KILLER...
amp\preamp interconnect
I've tried Alpha Core, and it SUCKS! Stay away from it, it's very distorted compared to competing brands. The "low impedance" philosophy is totally flawed!
Advice for a new hi-fi customer
ALSO, read "The Complete Guide to Highend Audio". And forgive old Bob's absurd tone in addressing the reader as "she/her". Political correctness run amuck...but it is the best source for the beginner, and even a few guys longer in the tooth.
Get a DAC for CD63SE or a new CD?
I say go with the Bel Canto DAC-1. I don't even see the new upsampling optioned MSB Link DAC getting close to it.
Fine tuning: advice?
OK, whatever you say. I'd get ASC traps, though. And try the 330 interconnect for sure.
amp\preamp interconnect
Stay away from Transparent. My MIT 330 Shotgun has KILLED TRANSPARENT REFERENCE (latest version), and even MIT's own 350 CVT Reference (1 meter of either is well over $2000!!!!). Besides these, it has also killed HT Pro Silway 2, Cardas Neutral Re...
Fine tuning: advice?
"NIMBUS": That long run of Tara 500 cable is really holding the system back, I GURANTEE THAT (practically killing it!!). Find a way to use shorter lengths, and also try the Harmonic Technology Pro-11 speaker cable. Or even Kimber 8TC would be grea...
Krell or Pass
"Harvey": I would blame your Logans before I blamed the Krell amplifier, unless you're not conditioning the AC power for the Krell. (Krell says not to use conditioners, but they're partly wrong, because the ones that don't current limit are fine F...
Passive vs. active preamps
If you already have an active preamp that you're very happy with, then there's no harm in building a passive one, especially if you can do it on the cheap. I don't expect that you'll discover anything about passives that isn't already known, howev...
North Creek Music Xovers
Besides being a jaded audiophile, I'm also an avid speaker hobbyist/designer. The air core inductors North Creek sells are the very best, esp. the 8 AWG ones. I don't own B&W speakers, but the difference these coils have made in my designs is ...
