From whence does Sound Stage come?
I think that the illusion of soundstage has to be within the recording first. Then a combination of absorption and diffusion in the listening space can greatly enhance the illusion which is already present inside the recording. In my room, the musi...
Burn in vs perception
I never put much stock in electronics burn in until I got a pair of PS audio M700s. After the first 3 days, I wanted to send them back to the hell from whence they came. There was lots of blare and glare in the upper mid/lower treble range. It was...
When are speakers considered Hi-Fi and not Mid-Fi???
If I had debate team, I would try to recruit holydean as the lead. As for hifi/midfi, I only know what makes me happy within my budget and hifi/midfi be damned. Seems the OP left this thread to float like a big ol’ turd in a tub.
Stereophile and the love of hotel decor
As a photography enthusiast, I totally get it. Photos like these make me cringe a little.
What are your favorite songs or albums for illustrating a deep soundstage?

Advice on how to liquidate system
@jl1ny, I feel for ya. I know how disgusted you must feel but as others have said, give it some time. If you feel like you must sell, The Music Room as someone has suggested might be a good solution. Someone mentioned acupuncture. I’ve used acupu...
Any Thoughts?
How much does Canada weigh¿
Audio Research Dog
Used to be one of my passions as well. My brother and I had a photo processing business back in the day. Had a camera around my neck everywhere I went. You certainly have a good eye.
Audio Research Dog
@ghdprentice, that set of photos that follow after the dog photo are pretty damn impressive. Solid photography!
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
@krelldreams, true dat! Every model I’ve had sounded a bit disappointing out of the box. Fortunately, they get better with age. I’ve found that about 3 months is a good break in period but they still continue improve after that.
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
I think they will work too. Especially since you have some room treatments. I find (in my room) that absorption on the front wall kills some of the sense of spaciousness. I have absorbsion/scattering panels on the rear wall and diffusion panels on...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
@yyzsantabarbara, I’ve never had Maggie’s in a room that small so I won’t speculate on how they would sound. Apparently Magnepan says yes. Here is what Magnepan says about that from their FAQ section: “A typical consumer question-- "Is the _____...
Another "Best" amplifier Question.
OP, you mentioned your age. I too am getting up there and I have some physical limitations. I can’t be chucking around 50+ lb amps anymore. That’s why I recently went to class D monoblocks from PS Audio. Stellar M700. They are only about 13 lbs an...
Help with hiss
@2psyop, Yep. Similar experience. For the year I had the upgrade, it was there longer than it was at my place. Straight answers were hard to come by but excuses and non-answers were easy to come by. I hope this isn’t the same for OP. I chalked it ...
Help with hiss
I have an Odyssey Audio Stratos. For 20 yrs it was dead quiet. In 2021, I sent it to Odyssey for a Kismit upgrade. It came back with a hiss in the speakers and transformer hum. I sent it back (almost $300 in shipping by now). They said that they r...
