The Best Live album
Flipper, "Blow'n Chunks".Okay, it may not be the best live recording ever (or it may), but it's recorded a lot better than you'd expect. The drums really slam."Public Flipper Limited", on the other hand, doesn't sound so great. But it does have so...
Your favorite music over the holidays
Branca, Flipper.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
My Polk LSi9s image ambient/electronica/etc. really well, and the Parasound HCA-1500A that I recently picked up really makes them sing - a significant improvement over my old Adcom GFA-545.As a result, I'm listening to a lot of the aforementioned ...
Anyone listen to Alva.Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto?
Thanks for recommendations! I'll check both of those out.In the "weird name, great sounds" vein: Nicholas Szczepanik's "Please Stop Loving Me". Ambient/drone; very warm. One review described it as "hangar-sized". It's not his first work, but he's ...
Anyone listen to Alva.Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto?
Can't believe I forgot to mention Kangding Ray and Byetone. I particularly like the new Byetone, and his earlier cd, Death Of A Typographer.Vladislav Delay, Senking, yes...I'll also throw in Thomas Koner. I love his "chilly" cds, like Daikan. And ...
Anyone listen to Alva.Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto?
Wish I'd seen this earlier...I'm amazed by all of the Sakamoto/Noto cds: Vrioon, Summvs, Insen, Revep. Acoustic piano, glitch, combinations thereof, with a touch of dub. Previously unheard sounds that make perfect sense. Recorded immaculately, lik...
Ipod 30-pin-to-USB cable
@Ecruz: You know what, that's a very good idea. Thanks for the tip!
Ipod 30-pin-to-USB cable
I was actually a little confused at first, because I just don't know anything about the world of DAC inputs, and apparently, firewire and other sockets are common outs to DACs. (I know I sound like a caveman here - firewire-to-USB cables, eh? Your...
Ipod 30-pin-to-USB cable
The player actually does put USB-loaded music files through its own DAC. It plays files from any kind of drive that can be connected w/USB (ipod, flash, etc.). The SQ difference between this and (e.g.) headphone-jack-to-RCA is quite noticeable. I'...

Best 2 ch. Amp, for music, under $1k used
B-limo, no problem. I love my GFA-545 - really. It opened my ears, and got me through a lot. But, as noted, the jump to the DNA-1 was unexpectedly amazing. In my case specifically, it's as if I got a new (much better) pair of speakers.
Best 2 ch. Amp, for music, under $1k used
I only have experience with the McCormack DNA-1, but I just jumped to it from an Adcom GFA-545. The difference really is astounding. My 4-ohm Polk LSi9 speakers are completely transformed by its low-impedance capabilities. Got it used for a good b...

Speakers and air-conditioning
I'm breaking in a pair of Polk LSi9s, and my main complaint about them is that they sound dry (acoustically). I'm kind of grasping at straws in terms of causes, and looking for hope that it'll go away. I run my a/c all day, even when I'm not at ho...
